"What Tom Brown Says.
JFrotn tbe (Pueblo) Colorado Chleftain.l
' Editor CniEtTAiK: Having crossed the
'Rubicon anfl burned my boats, a certain
respect for many in Pueblo nd vicinity, to
whom I would vrrito if time and opportu
nity permitted, impels me to send you this
epistle, which I hope you will give a place
in your columns. With my kind wishes
for you all, and hoping if any of you live to
see 'another centennial year, you may see
more honest men and fewer rogues in ofiice
3t lCfiSt.
I-cannot exclaim like Oesar: Vim, vidi,
rici, but I have met, have fought, and hope
to conquer. Think I am in a fair way of it
I see that some eastern man who has trav
r,A in A r?7fn?i rnns it in his lecture the
"Wonderland." It is truly a land of won
ders, wonderful in extent and richness, in
ancient mines anu wimucra, i anuCa
;nr. n'i.im.u -is n stock or ?razimr country
ii mnt of nil. the wonderful mineral
rrnoiih nf tin; Tcrritorr. Arizona is rich
and independent within herself; her great
varietv of soil and climate is capable of
producing anything and everything that
can be raised in America. You can suit
yourself in any kind of climate you wish,
regulated usually by the altitude of thn. por
tion. I have seen almost every imagina
ble production grown successfully in dif-
fe'rent parts of Arizona. I have seen splen
did wheat, corn, oak, barley, potatoes, tur
nips, cabbage, and everything in the vegeta
ble line; sugar-cane, peaches, apples, grapes,
and in fact everything which has been
tilled. I have seen the healthiest country,
I believe, in North America, the most de
sirable and pleasant climate in winter and
summer; I have seen cattle, horses and sheep
as fat in the spring after running at large
all winter, as 1 ever saw in any country at
any time, I have seen the most inviting and
most desirable country for the poor man
and where men can live well and with less
effort than in any other country I ever saw,
and I have been north, south, east and west.
I have seen men who have gotten rich in
this country, and many who chooso to re
main poor. I have seen many leaving and
cursing the country and many poor coming
und praising it. California, Nevada, Utah
and the Eastern States are pouring their
floods of immigration forward. Arizona
will soon have the requisite population for
a State, without the aid of that sucker Con
gressman who introduced a bill to tack it on
to New Nexico, and will take her place in
due Hino as second only to California, of
the Pacific States.
A word of personal matters and I am
done. I hope and trust those indebted to
mo honestly and justly in Pueblo and
vicinity will pay over such amounts to
".cither of the following gentlemen: Mr.
v 'George ITass or J. V. Andrews, and will
not take any advantage of my absence, as I
' don't intend to take advantage of anything
- thereby.
In the mean time, any one wishing to
write me may t-end as follows: Camp
Hualpai P. 0., via Oaks and Willows and
Mount Hope mail, and would be pleased to
hear from any one on business or other
wise. Now Captain, if you will send me
the Weekly Chieftain, the first potatoes I
turn off my ranch this fall I will remit you
amount of subscription. Believe me Iused to
read the Chieftain with ai much regularity
while in Pueblo as I took my meals or bit
ters, but have quit the latter part since I
came West That's so Doc.

"Discount on silver bars to-day, is from 25
to 27 cents. We have seen nothing else, to
warrant the belief that silver will remain at
anysuch ruinous discount as this, and if the
late report be true that the Bonanza mines are

will certainly bring it up again, and that
