P HAVE NO EQUAL FOR PURITY
The members of the Lihue base
ball team met at Tin; Garden
Island office last Friday night,
the meeting having been called
chiefly for the purpose of accept
ing the resignation of Arthur Rice
as its captain and for the election
of a successor. K. C. Hopper was
chosen as the club's new captain,
his election meeting with the un
qualified approval of all the mem
bers. Constant practise will be the
slogan of Captain- Hopper, and
that Lihue will have a look-in at
the finish of the series is predicted
by those who are qualified as judges
of prize winning ball material.
From all over the island comes
encouraging reports. A number
of games are played every Sunday
between the various teams. Wai-
mea is out for blood, while the
McBrydeand Makaweli'saregiviug
her every opportunity to get it, by
supplying practise teams. Koloa
has her team out in almost con
stant practise and bids fair to de
velop into a dangerous rival for su
premacy. Kilauea and Kawaihau,
as usual, aie doing the practise
stunt and from general appearances
the coming ball season will be one
to remember.
Kam Baseball Talk
Baseball practise is progressing
splendidly at the school at the pre
sent date and will continue until
the series starts which is very near.
Teams are out every afternoon
playing against each other and
some good practise games have
been played, which showed u p
some good material. The pitching
staff is a little weak, although it
has been strengthened by the
work of Henry Haneberg, who
seems to have had something to do
with pitching while at the coast.
Henry has a speedy ball and also
a puzzling spit ball.
Sam Hussey will still be the
backstop of the team with Lujan
at first. W. Apau will hold his
position a t second and Captain
Noah will play at short. As to
the other positions a final decision
has not yet been made by the
coachers. G. Bush, Henry Hane
berg, G. Kaonohi are trying for
the position as pitcher, and a large
number are trying for the outfields.
The boys in the grammar league
are also out practising for their
coming series. The sixth graders
have a good chance of making the
team, as a number of other vacan
cies have been found. G. Bush
may not pilch in the grammar
team as stated before, so there is a
vacancy for a boy with a strong
arm who thinks he can pitch well.
Tim Handicraft.
No Prodigy.
"Yes, sir, that boy of mine is a
piano plaver.
Why, he can play with his toes,"
said a proud father.
"How old is he?" asked the
friend .
"Fifteen."
"Well, ".said the friend, "I've
got a boy at home who can play
with his toes, and he's only one
year old."

That circumstantial evidence also
includes working up a case for a
$300.00 retainer.
That it also included rounding
up a bunch of innocent men.
That the man behind the circum
stantial evidence is not a deputy
sheriff, nor is he a sheriff.
That he is not likely to be.
That its hard telling what he is.
That there is room for consider
able guessing,

tain young feller would have grown

Household Hints
Inflamed eyes may be relieved
by binding over them for a few
minutes the scooped-out insjde of
a fresh potato.
Headache almost always will
yield to the application of hot water
to the feet and back of the neck at
the same time.
If sweet oil is applied to the skin
immediately after a blow or bruise
it will keep the skin from turning
blue or black.
When cold cream is not soothing
and whitening to the skin, it may
be concluded that the ingredients
are adulterated.
Pimples are not a local disease,
but a symptom of internal troubles,
generally of retention due to slug
gish organs of elimination.
High-chair climbing increases
the digestive powers of the child so
it can assimilate a large percentage
of the food eaten by it.
When a finger has been severely
pinched plunge it into water as hot
as can be borne, as this will verv
quickly lessen the pain and pre-
veifj; throbbing.
-'clergyman in a small town was
deploring the fact that none of the
couples that came in from the coun
try to be married stopped at his
house for the purpose.
'Well, brother," said the man
addressed, what can you expect
with that big sign on the tree there :
'Five dollars fine for hitching
here?" Youth 's Companion .
' My lad, I was a newsboy once. ' '
"Aw, what cha tryin' to do
git me downhearted?"
