The promotion of Tourist travel

The law of .supply and demand

Why is it that we are not travel
ling anout the islands m 100 ton
choo icrs as in the days of our fa
thers? Because there are more
pvople, more travel, more demand.
A few years ago when they put the
Manna Kea on the Hilo run, there
was some question as to whether
it would pay, and there were ru

was going to be taken olf. Nowv

We complain of the present ac-
' coniniodations, we insist on the
' Inter Island giving us a better ser
j vice. We might as well cry to a
brass god. The Inter Island will
never give us a service that is not
in itself lucrative! When the pas
senger traffic will warrant more
steamers we will g e ,t them. Not
before. That stands .to reason. The
Interlsland isn't a charitable or
ganization, it is a business corpo
ration it can't afford to giva a ser
vice which isn't lucrative. The
best guarantee, indeed the only
guarantee for better facilities Ik re.
on Kauai is more people peopk- at
home if we've got them; people a-
broad if w,e can borrow them.

And so in some one or all these
ways, and others that will suggest
themselves, we are all interested

motion and ought all to cooperate
for its benefit which will be o u r
