The by-laws were so changed in order to comply with . the provi sions of a portion of the appropria tion bill passed by the recent legis lature and signed by Governor L. A. Pinkham. The appropriation bill allowed $12,000.00 from the Terri torial treasury Jor the uses of the Hawaii Promotion Committee in its campaign of publicity and at tracting tourists to the Hawaiian Islands, providing that the mem bership of the Promotion Commit tee was enlarged so that the Gov ernor might appoint a representa tive on the committee from each Island, to wit, Oahu, Maui, Ha waii and Kauai, each such member to be nominated by the Board of Supervisors of each such island, in conjunction with the leading com mercial organization of each such island, the appropriation Act un der which this ptovision is made becoming effective July 1, 1915. This action, taken at the in stance of the Hawaii Promotion Committee before the Chamber of Commerce, opens the way for each Island to be appropriately repre sented on the Hawaii Promotion Committee which is the official in formation bureau for the Territory of Hawaii and the commercial or ganizations above enumerated, and whose principal business is the dis seminating of correct information about the Islands abroad and to attract from abroad tourists to all the islands of the Hawaiian group Its second function is to endeavor, in every possible way, to induce such tourists arriving at Honolulu the capital city of the Hawaiian Islands, to visit the other Islands and to linger as long as possible in each, so that each island will de rive benefit from this general cam paign to make the Hawaiian Is lands the Playground of the World THE RESOLUTION. following is the resolution tn full which provides for the increase of members: Resolved, That the by-laws of the chamber of commerce of Hon olulu be and the same are hereby amended as follows, namely: Amend Section One of Article Nine by adding thcrero the follow ing words, namely: "The Hawaii Promotion Committee shall consist of five persons appointed by the president under the terms of this section, and four persons, one re presenting each of the four Islands of Hawaii, Oahu, Maui and Kauai to be appointed by the Governor, upon the nomination of the res pective boards ot county supervi sors of the said Islands, acting in conjunction with the respective principal commercial or civic orga nizations of the said Islands. To make certain for the pur poses hereof what said commercial or civic organizations are, they are hereby declared to be: the Hilo board of trade, oti the Island of Hawaii; the chamber of commerce of Honolulu, on the Island of Oa hu; the Maui chamber of com merce, on the Island of Maui, and the Kauai chamber of commerce on the Island of Kauai. Amend Section Two of Article Nine, by adding thereto the follow ing words, namely: The committee shall in each year hold one or more meetings of the committee in each of the Islands of Hawaii, Maui and Kauai, to consider in addition t o general business, special features incident to the tourist business on such islands respectively.
