The following letter, written at
sea, was received in Lihue last
week: "We are about H00 miles
from Honolulu and will send mail
back by t lie Wilhelmina if the wea
ther will permit the transfer of our
letters. I was sick for one day
and have not seen Miss Mumford
and Miss Jordan since leaving Ho
nolulu, The wind is ahead, but
the weather is fine. We will reach
San Francisco about 8 A. M. next
Tuesday. The steamer is full up.

Says the Honolulu Star-Bulle
The purchase at par of a block
of $100,000 worth of 5 per cent
bonds of the McBrvde Sugar Com
pany, Ltd . made yesterday after
noon, was financed by the Com
pany, which is using that aniont
of mouev Tor the retirement of part
of its bond issue, according to an
announcement made at the offices
of Alexander & Baldwin.
The company, in addition to re
tiring the bonds, this month paid
its first dividend, .-.ending out to
shareholders checks totalling $82,
S02, or 50 cents per share. The
company formerly had $2,000,000
in bonds oustanding, and before
yesterday's purchase the bonds
' not retired amounted to $1 ,893,900.
