Chamber Of Commerce

Chamber of Commerce will be held
in the district court room, countv
building, Li hue, at 3 o'clock
Thursday afternoon. A number
of deferred and routine matters
will come up.

in Honolulu, now on Kauai, has
some paintings of local scenery on
exhibition in his studio at Maka
weli. Anyone interested in pic

GUARDSMEN
MAN
Most of the equipment for the
companies of the Kauai battalion
of the National Guard arrived last
week. The cases containing the
guns and uniforms for Companies
C, K and F came up on the Ki
nau, while those for Companies A,
B and D arrived on the W. G.
Hall Friday morning.
The rifles are of the 1903 model,
thirty caliber, regulation in every
respect. They are being issued to
men enlisted and actually sworn
in as members of companies.
The uniforms of the officers havej
not yet arrived, and it will prob
ably be several days vet before
they come along. This does not
matter much, however, for the
trappings of the officers' uniforms
have yet to come from the east ;
and it will be two or three weeks
more before they show up. I
It is expected that the entire j
battalion, officers and all, will be
uniformed and equipped before the
first of the year.

TOURS THE ISLAND'
l;id Halton, the new represen
tative of the Hawaii Promotion
Committee in San Fraucisco, made
a tour of Kauai last week, coming,
over Wednesday morning and re-
turning t o Honolulu Saturday
night. He spent a day in and
around Lihue, visited Waimea, the
barking sands. Olokele and other
points in that neighborhood and
the intervening towns.
Mr. Halton was fortmrly in the.
pagsenger service of a leading rail-
road, and was selected bv II. P.
Wood and A. P. Taylor on account
of his success in taking care of
travellers. He will have a perma
nent office in the Monadnock
Building,. San Francisco, where
he will carry on his work. It will ,
be his plan to formulate itineraries
which will include nil the island
of the group including, of course,;
Kauai. In his work he will have
the cooperation, it is understood,
of the great tours bureaux.
The new promotion man had al
ready gone pretty thoroughly over
the islands of Hawaii and Maui,
and his Kauai tour completed liU
preliminary wrk in the Islands.
He will leave for San Francisco
during the present week.
The Accident Board
A meeting of the Accident Board
of Kauai will be held at the coun
ty building at 1:30 Thursday af
ternoon. It is expected that all
the members of the Board will be
present, for the first time.

Kinau Sailing Changes
On Christinas week the Kinau
will anive in Honolulu from Kau
ai on Christmas morning. Decem
ber 25, instead of Sunday, Decem
ber 26. She will also arrive on New
Year's morning, instead of Sunday
morning, January 2.
