THE GARDEN ISLAND TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 15, 1916,
Lucas Brothers, the Honolulu
contractors, will likely get the
contract for erecting the fine, new
theater building; in Lihue, plans
for which were drawn by Ripley
& Davis, architects, sometime ago.
It will he a surprise to many that
the Spaldini Construction Com
pany failed in the matter, for they
had done insist nf the figuriiiR on
the building and it was generally
thought, that they would "land"
But the bids were opened at Ho
nolulu last Thursday, and when
the figures, were examined they
showed the following:
Honolulu Planing Mill Co. (Lu
cas Brothers), $33, 889.00; Spald
ing Construction Company, $35,
290.00; Lord-Young Company,
These figures are for the build
ing alone, the extras to be added.
The matter will now be taken
up with the bidders at Honolulu
and it is quite probable that work
on the building will start shortly
The theater to be constructed
will be one of the finest of its size!
and character to be found in any
small town anywhere. Everything
about it will be first-class and!
modern, and the house will be asj
attractive as it can possibly bej
