KAUAI MAN DIES
SUDDENLY IN CITY
. Antone Gomes, a Honolulu police
officer, originally from the Hanalei
side of Kauai, died in the city last
Tuesday. His two wins work tor
the Wainiha power house and im
mediately on receipt of the news left
for Honolulu. A city paper con
tained the following concerning the
death of Gomes :
Antone Genies, mounted police
man on the Iwilei beat, died early
this morning at the emergency hos
pital from heart failure. The oflieer
was stricken at about 2:30 while on
duty. Police Surgeon 11. G. Ayer
responded immediately to a call but
medical aid and artificial restora
tives were unavailing.
Gomes' body was taken to Silva's
undertaking parlor. Funeral ar
rangements will not be completed
until the arrival Wednesday of two
sons living on Kauai.
The deceased was 53 years old ;
a native of Kauai; a member
of the police force for five years and
is survived by his wife and a son
and daughter in Honolulu, lxsides
those on Kauai and other relatives.
Sheriff Rose and Deputy Sheriff
Asch say Gomes was one of the
most popular and trustworthy men
in the department. Every member
of the police department who knew
him sincerely grieves his loss.
Gomes, family is the first to bene
fit from the recently organized
Widows and Orphans Relief Asso
ciation of which there are about
two hundred members.
Police Surgeon R. G. Ayer re
ports that Gomes suffered two frac
tured ribs some time ago which
affected his heart.
