Athletic officers and company
commanders of the 1st. battalion
are preparing for an entertainment
to Ix; given by the lihue Social hall
next Saturday, the proceeds of which
will be devoted to defraying expen
ses of transporting baseball teams
during the first and second scries.
Present plans include a moving
picture entertainment, especially ar
ranged for with W. Fernandez, to
be followed by a dauce. Other items
are tentatively planned, no definite
announcement of which, however,
is as yet forthcoming.
No efforts are being spared to
make this affair another of the suc
cessful events already put forth at
various times by the several units
of the fourth regiment.
Tickets admitting to show and
dance, $1.00. Picture show only 25

Lihue Union Church
The "Fall opening" of the Lihue
Union Church on Sunday morning
last, was a good "send off" for the
year. There was a fine audience,
the decorations were unusually hap
py, there was a large choir with
some excellent music, and the minis
ter measured up to the occasion in
keeping with his surroundings. He
welcomed his audience to their ac
customed places in the church, and
added a word of greeting to the new
comers, o f whom there were a
goodly number in the audience;
Mr. Mori's Advice
The meeting of Japanese clubs in
Lihue social hall Sunday evening to
hear the address of Consul Mori was
attended by 170 Hawaiian-born
Japanese. The speakers were Den
ichi Takeuchi, of Hanapepe; Princi
pal W. C. Avery, of the Kauai high
school; Paul Steel, of the Honolulu
Y. M. C. A; Chas. F. Loomis, of
the Kauai Y. M. C. A., who presid
ed; and Consul Mori. In his address
the latter, among other things, gave
the following advice to . Japanese
young men born on Kauai ; "You
are the sons of the most patriotic
prople on earth, and it will be to
the credit of their claim for you to
show that you can be the most pat
riotic of American citizens. If you
do not possess that characteristic
patriotism of your fathers, you will
fall far short as citizens of America.
I see no difference in character be
tween being a loyal American citi
zen and being a good and loyal Japa
nese, save only that your patriotism
must be directed toward the land of
your birth (America) instead of to
