3I KAUAI'S GREAT chasm is the subject of a mas
terly oil-painting by Howard Hitchcock. This
painting will be the background of a diorama,
showing Waimea Canyon from a short distance
south of
Puu Ka Pele
I SIX OTHER Island wonders will be shown in diorama form:
Haleakala, Waimea, Oahu; Kilauea, Nuuanu Pali, Ililo Bay,
Oahu from Tantalus.
IN THE CARNIVAL the races of the Pacific will draw close
to each other.
Kings of Far Lands
J WILL MEET in the landing of the Carnival Kings, Floats of
Hawaii, New Zealand, California, Australia, Japan, China,
Korea anil Java will move in the Pan-Pacilic Parade. In
dustries of
Ancient Days
J IN HAWAII will be portrayed; there will be true hulas of
old time, and the Hawaiian Piigeant will lecall the long ago.
Possibility of War
J HAS NOT changed plans for the Carnival. The military re
view of Washington's Birthday. February 22, long a crown
ing event of the week, will take place as arranged. More
troops of the
United
I FORCES AND of the National Guard of Hawaii will march
before Governor Pinkham than in any previous parade. The
Water Pageant, swimming races, Children's Festival, Hibis
cus Show, Chase of King Pilikia and many other events will
make the week a full and merry one.
J Reduced steamship rates twenty-five per. cent, off, have been
