The regular monthly business
meeting of the Board of Supervi
sors of the County of Kauai was
held as usual at the office of the
Board on Wednesday the 1st day
of August, 1917 at 10 A. M.
Present: H. D. Wishard. chair
man; T. Brandt, W. D. McBryde,
F. Bettencourt, Jr.
Mr. Menefoglio being still ill

The official bond of A. Mene
foglio as Supervisor of the District
of Hanalei which has been ap
proved by the Honorable Lyle A,
Dickey, Judge of the Circuit Court
of the Fifth Circuit, was received
and ordered placed n file. .
The official bonds of Win. Wer
ner, as Deputy Sheriff of Hanalei,
and of Enoka Lovell as Deputv
Sheriff of Lifiue, each for the term
of two years from July 1st, 1917,
were received and being found
in order were approved.
After a verbal statement bv the
County Auditor the Board upon
the motion of Mr. McBryde sec
onded by Mr. Bettencourt. Jr.. ap
propriated the sum of ne hun
dred and fiftv five dollars and
seventy five cents ($155.75) to pay
a bill for treatment accoided one
Miss Emily Paiakatani at the
Queen's Hospital, Honolulu, and
charged against the account tor
"support Juvenile Court Depen
dents." On the matter of the appoint
ment of a representative for the
County of Kauai on the Hawaii
Promotion Committee the Board of
its own motion authorized the
chairman to confei with a commit
tee of the Kauai Chamber of Com
merce in regard thereto.'
A requisition (P1429) for repairs
to principals cottage, Lihue school,
and another one (Pl459a) for re
pairs to Kapaa school,' etc, were
received and referred to the county
engineer with full power to act in
A report (P1459b) on the condi
tion of the Lihue school building
etc, for the mouth of June was re
ceived and placed on tile.
The chair called the attention of
the board to a claim of one Kani
kela Hui (k) made under the Com
pensation Act against the County
of Kauai for damages suffered by
the claimant while in the actual
employ of the countv' and stated
that as there was a similar matter
pending in the Supreme Court of
Hawaii it would be best to defer
consideration of the claim until
after the Suoreme Court case is
finally disposed. It was so ordered.
The Finol Reports Nos. -203,
203a, 203aa. and 203b for July; a
statement (R204) by the Auditor
of the Receipts and Disbursements
for the six months ending June
30, 1917; and the auditors annual
report R205) to June 30th 1917,
were received and referred to Mr.
Brandt for" advice.
An offer by Roy Matthews of
Kapahi homesteads to grant the
County ot Kauai a right of way
for its tunnel to Akulikuli Springs
for one hundred dollars (1100.00)
was taken into consideration and
