The regular monthly business meet
ing of the Board of Supervisors of the
County of Kauai was held at the office
of the Board on Wednesday, July 3rd,
1918, at 9 o'clock a. m. Present were
H. D. Wlshard, chairman; T. Brandt;
W. D. McBryde, J. F. Bettencourt, Jr.;
The minutes of the last meeting
were read and approved.
The Board after examination of the
bills submitted approved them against
the following appropriations:

A communication (155Sb) from Mr.
H. W. Kinney, Superintendent of
Public Instruction regarding the con
struction of new school bungalows
was received and placed on file.
Reports (P1558c) on school build
ings for June were received from
Anahola, Eleele, Hanamaulu, Huleia,
Kalaheo, Kapaa, Kapahi, Kauai High,
Kekaha, Kilauea, Koloa, Llhue, Maka
weli, Mana and Waimea and were
placed on file.
A request (P1559) from the Kauai
Chamber of Commerce to authorize
reasonable expenditure to put the
road to Puukapele and Kokee into
passable condition was received and
upon the motion ofv Mr. Menefoglio
seconded by Mr. Bettencourt Jr. same
was placed on file to be acted upon
later when funds were available.
A notice (P15G0) from the Aetna
Casualty and Surety Co., that one F.
D. Creedon is the Resident Assist
ant Secretary of that company at
Honolulu was received and placed

aiian Canneries Co., of Kapaa to be
permitted to have a two iyh (2")

was received and upon the motion of
Mr. Menefoglio seconded by Mr. Bet
tencourt Jr. the same was placed on
file to be taken up later when a re
port Is received from the Superinten
dent of the Kapaa Water Works who
Is asked to furnish a statement show
ing the payments made by this com
puny for water used by it up to date.
A petition (P1502) from Huleia
Llhue, to maintain the old Huleia
School was received and was orderi
ed to be referred to the Dpmirtment
of Public Instruction, upon the mo
tion of Mr. McBryde and seconded by
Mr. Menefoglio, with a request to
forward recommendations as soon as

Auditor for permission to make
changes and transfers in the General
Fund and the Permanent Improve
ment Fund accounts in order to make
a proper annual report for the fiscal
year from July 1st, 1917, to June 30th
191 S, and requested for by the Gov
ernor of Hawaii, was granted.
At 12 o clock noon a recess was
taken until 2 o'clock p. m.
At 2 o'clock p. m. the Board again
resumed its meeting.
After hearing another report from
the Finance Committee, authority
was given the County Road Engineer
(1) to complete the Wailua Bridge
work, and (2) to move the Rock
Crusher to Mana after the comple
tion of the Wailua Road resurfacing
work. The Board also' allowed each
district to expend during the current
month for the upkeep of its roads the
sum of $1,000.00.
A request (P1503) from the Kapaa
Homesteaders, 4th series, to impound
all estray animals running at large
on the homesteads was received and
as the Board did not have the auth
ority to do so the same was ordered
placed on file.
A report (R?19) from the County
Auditor of examining and checking
the books of the County officials was
