The Kapaa Mont Market gave a J
dinner last Monday to celobrrte the ,
opening of their new shop. A larga
number of loeal residents were in-;
viled and n good time was had by all.
All of the Krpra school teachers,
who went to Honolulu' for the holi
days returned on the Klnau Friday.,
Kauai in general, and Kapaa in par-
tlcular, must seem pretty dull to the
local teachers. I
Simultaneous with all other parts ;
of the Hawaiiaa Islands, census tak-,
ing began here last Friday. The en- j
umeratoru assigned to this district
are A. II. Wong for Kapaa and Wai-
pouli, N. K. Hoopii for Analiola, Y. J
Nagahisa for Kealia. end Joseph II. j
Kodrigues for Homesteads. !
1920 was ushered in here with
little ceremony. As this is the second
ear since the banishment of John 1
Barleycorn, his absence was not par
ticularly felt. j
Mrs. A. Horner, Sr., and her son:
John, depaited for Honolulu on Sat
urday after spending the holidays
here with Mr. and Mrs. A. Horner, Jr.
Mr. A. S. Hush has left the employ
of the Hawaiian Canneries Company
and is now devoting his whole time to
his homestead interests.
Business was pr.u tically suspended
for two days here last week on account,
of it being New Year's. Most of tiie
business houses closed shv md allow
ed their employees two days off.
which is the usual custom with the
local Oriental merchants.
