THE GARDEN ISLAND, TUESDAY, JUNE 15, 1920
LIHUE UNION CHURCH
Children's Day was celebrated Inst
Sunday at Llhuc Union both in the
Sunday school and morning church ;
services. The Sunday school children
repeated one of their songs at the
church service In place o the regular
anthem. . Their sweet voices and j
happy childish faces combined with
the harmony of Bong aroused corres-j
ponding emotions on the part of the i
congregation. 'l ne children were
drilled by Misses Fox and Thclma
Hopper. At the beginning of the
service the pastor, Hev. H. V. Dayless j
assisted by Judge Dickey and Rev. J.
O. Warner, administered the sacra
ment of baptism. The candidates
were the infants Martha Marion Wil
cox, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles
H. Wilcox, Nancy Wallace Warner,
daughter of Mr. nnd Mrs. Jay O. War
ner anil Eugene Waldo Bayless, Bon of
Mr. and Mrs. Ralph W. Bayless.
Following this the pastor preached
a forceful sermon to the children on
"The Boy King" calling nine year old
Lloyd Nelson to the front as an Illus
tration of the size of the boy king, the
preacher emphasized the lessons frpm
the life and reign of Josiah, who under
the teaching and influence of a godly
mother, wrought great reforms among
his people.
In the evening tho first of the union
evening services that have been plann
ed were held with the encouraging at
tendance of sixty. Among tho musical
numbers were some old fashioned
gospel melodies by the congregation
and a special song by the Japanese
choir. Mrs. Swan sang "Teach me to
Tray" by Jcwitt with pleasing effect.
Rev. Charles Keahi, pastor of the Ha
waiian church, preached on the theme
"A Self-Starter." Although somewhat
handicapped by having to speak in his
adopted tongue, the English language,
the force of hjs thought overcame the
barrier and drove his message home.
Following the benediction the union
choir sang "Now the Day is Over.,, It
Is planned to hold these union ser
vices about once each month.

KEKAHA SCHOOL ENJOYS TRIP
A week ago Tuesday the upper
grade children of Kekaha school, in
two largo trucks, enjoyed a trip to
Wailua Falls. Many Btop overs were
also enjoyed on the way, particularly
at the spouting horn at Koloa. These
trips are tho last word in direct
methods of teaching bud the children
gathered enough first hand impressions
of interest to furnish material for
school work for a long, time to come.
