playground ball teams of the fourteen
members of the league are preparing
themselves for combat. Ployground
ball tor interschool competition Is a
new thing on Kauai and the skeptics
are already disappearing in the tall
timber.

KAUAI HIGH DOINGS
The Girl Reserves of the high school
spent a jolly afternoon Friday In swim'
ming at Niimalu. This organization
is planning a big initiation meeting in
a few weeks. It is to be held at the
Lihue Social Hall, and will be under
the supervision of Miss Soule.
Among other events there is to be
an inter-corps baseball game, provided
the teams can be organized and put
into working order by that time. This
meeting is to be one of the big events
of the year for the high school divis
ion of the Girls' Reserves.
The Kauai high school athletic
association held a meeting last Friday
and covered quite a bit of business, in
eluding the election of the Queen of
Beauty. The winner well deserves the
title.
Every effort is being put forth to
make this a notable year in the line
of sports for the high school, and from
all signs so far, we are attaining that
goal.
Already there have been three inter
class baseball games played, all of
which resulted in victories for the
senior-sophmores as against the junior
freshmen. Work has started on the domestic
science building. Already the foun
dation is laid, and, considering the
number of carpenters at work, it is
going quite rapidly. It's erection is
being watched with great eagerness
by all the students, for when it is com
pleted it means "good eats" for all at
lunch time. .
There is a large domestic science
class under Miss Lindsay. While wait
ing for their building they are learning
all the preliminaries of the art of
cooking. The plan of the class is to
serve hot lunches to the pupils of the
school, and as stated before, the ex
pectations of the school are high, for
we have some capable looking mem
bers In the clasB, which includes sev
eral boys.

Waimea School opened Sept. 13,
with an enrollment of 449, and 15
teachers. Since that date the enroll
ment has increased to 457.

The Domestic Science Depertment

formerly dietitian at Camp Lewis,
Washington, Army Hospital.
Mr. Win. Ferrlera is In charge of
Vocational Training for boys.
Waimea School is operating a Kin
dergarten with an enrollment of more
than twenty. Miss Hester Caldwell of
Denver is the teacher, and with one
assistant will shortly handle forty
