Daily Vacation Bible v
School Starts Aug. 3
A Daily Vacation Ilible School is
to be held at the Lihue Dormitory
from August 3 to September 1. The
course of study is all drawn up, the
programs and teachers secured and
the work of enrolling the students is
now going at full swing. It is ex
pected that more than seventy-five
boys and girls will be enrolled,
The principal of this school is to be
Miss Edna J. Hill, field worker of the
Sunday School department of the Ha
waiian Board. In addition to her
work as principal Miss Hill is going
to have charge of the calisthenics
for girls and will lead in the story
telling hour. Miss Hill is noted for
her ability to tell children stories en
tertainingly. This will be one of
the finest treats the little ones will
get in the whole school.
Miss Woodnorth of Honolulu will
be the leader in the Americanization
work. Miss Caroline! Bissinger,
well known Y V. C. A. worker of
Kauai, is chairman of the Bible de
partment. Miss Jenny Johnson, who
has charge of the Lihue Dormitory, is
to lead the needlecraft work. The
music department will be well taken
care of by Mrs. Charles Keahi. And
to keep the recesses interesting, R. C.
Macdonald of the Y. M. C. A. is going
to have full charge of the games.
Rev. R. W. Bayless of Lihue will be
taking his vacation on the Hanalel
side of the island at the time this
school is in session. But he has
been busy for the last few weeks pre
paring for it and making plans for
the smooth running of the school.

churches. The indications now are
that the attendance will fully justify
The term Bible School might lead
some to believe that only the Bible
will be discussed during these four
weeks. This could well be called
an Americanization or an Efficiency
School. The boys and girls are go
ing to be taught manual training and
household science in an intensive and
practical manner. The boys will
make simple furniture for their
homes which they may keep. The
girls will make ' clothes for them
Dramatics will not be neglected.
Bible plays will be given. The heros
and heroines of the Old Testament
will furnish the basis for these little
plays. Knowledge of the Bible will
be given to the children in a way that
they will like and understand.
Every school has to have, some ab
stract as well as concrete lessons.
Under the American Vacation list of
subjects, the following are listed to be
taught the Lihue children. They

given to the children free of charge.
