CHURCH RECEPTION
A BIG SUCCESS
The members of the Llhue Union
church gave a reception on the
church grounds last Wednesday af
ternoon to the newcomers to the
community. About 130 people at
tended. The reception started at 3:30. The
members of the fairer sex soon be
gan to arrive In large numbers. Due
to the early hours the men were
rather conspicuous by their ab

veterans turned up later In the af
ternoon however. Their reports made
many more wish that they had at

address of welcome. He then Intro

alia, who favored the malahlnls with
a number of beautiful Hawaiian so
los. The women of the Hawaiian
church furnished Hawaiian music
throughout the afternoon. This mus
ic, new to many of the strangers
In our midst, was greatly enjoyed
by old-tinaers and new-comers alike.
There is an unusually large num
ber of new arrivals on the Garden
Island at present. In addition to
the teachers from Kapaa, Hanamau
lu. Llhue high school and Lihue
grammar school who attended there
were also many who have come to
live permanently in our community
artd" who are engaged in commercial
occupations.
