Though the attendance at the rac
es at Walpouli last Saturday was
very poor, the races themselves were
above standard and several surpris
es were sprung. Brldgeplayer ran as
consistently as ever and won the
mile and the mile and a quarter In
easy style. Termont, me nanaiei
horse, did not place In either race
but as his training was held up duo
to the had weather, his showing
was not bo bad as It might appear.
Golden Spray came back and de
feated his old rival, Dinner Bell, in
the one mile race for Japanese own
ed horses. Sky Boy took second
place, Dinner Bell running a poor
Pegasus cleaned up in three races
winning the quarter, . the three

The Hanamaulu cowboy team won

honors that they lost on Armistice
Day. Waipoull took second place.

THE BIG NIGHT
The Waimea Young Men's Club
has everything ready for their big
athletic night at the Waimea hall
next Saturday evening. All the box
ers are in the pink of condition and
are ready for the bell. With only a
few days to go they are tapering
off in their training so as to be In
the best possible shape for the
Makaweli is backing Cyclone Pe
dro in the main event to knock
Whirlwind Thomas, the Kekaha en
try for a row of cane cars , when
they meet. Both boys have trained
hard and will have no excuse to of
fer in tho way of condition. The
Whirlwind has been knocking out
his sparring partners In regular or
der and the Kekaha fans all expect
him to win via the knockout route.
Pedro carries a wallop, so this bout
ought to be a slam-bang affair from
start to finish.
In the special event Fighting Joe
will meet Terrible Aileen, the camp
champion. Both these boys are heavy
hitters and can take punishment.
Neither one has any science but
believe in winning by knocking out
The preliminaries will consist of
three bouts. K. O. Esperas meets
Lightning Alfonso, both boys being
welterweights. Two lightweights,
Fighting Balbfcio and Iron Tony, will
meet in. the other preliminary while
two featherweights, Kid Takemoto
and Bantam Gripon will furnish the

LIVELY BASKETBALL GAME

In a ; practice game preparatory
to the opening of the island basket
ball season, Makaweli beat Waimea
by a score of 42 to 15 in a lively
game last night at the Makaweli
community house before a large
gathering of fans. Tho teams were
composed of the following players:
Makaweli Boecroft and Baldwin
forwards; Damkroger, center; Bean
and Marcallino, guards. Waimea
Silva and Caniara, forwards; Wright
center; Fernandez and Kan, guards.
Scores were made as follows:
Beecrolt 8, Baldwin 8, Damkrog
er 2U, Silva 5, Caniuru 7 and Kan 2.
Makaweli would like to have an
other game before the opening of
the season preferably with Libue.
