By the arrival of the ship Mary Wkitridfe. we
"have dates from Hongfcong to June 22d, and from
Singapore to June 4th. In the correspondence
iven below will be found a summary "of the news.
The Strait Timet of Singapore, of May 31st, says:
From Culcutta we have frightful news of the general
rising of the military fore. Several native regi
ments have revolted and murdered all the officers.
The city of Delhi has been captured and nearly
very European killed, under most atrocious and
revolting circumstances', not sparing age or sex.
Meerut also has fallen. Even Culcutta itself was in
European troops are arriving from all quarters
towards Calcutta and the Northwestern Provinces,
and every available steamer was despatched for their
-conveyance. Delhi and Meerut were to be surrounded
by European troops. The steamer Zenobia was in
. the Calcutta river, with 1,2)0 Europeans on boa re
from Madras. The commander-in-chief was actively
moving trot.ps and securing what forts he could.

The particulars of the brutal outrages that marked
the infernal massacre at Meerut, the horrors and
atrocities, are withheld, from a sense of delicacy.
Troops from all parts of India are hastening on to
Calcutta. Regiments ordered on to China have been
stopped. Government has despatched letters to Lord
Elgin and Gen. Ashhurnham, with the object of
obtaining the aid of troops destined for China. Let
ters have been forwarded with the view of meeting
them there. European troops from Ceylon and
Barraah have been sent on.
Martial law has been proclaimed. Merchants of
Calcutta have raised a militia. S. F. Herald.
