to her buzzura and btaru up in a excited manner.
"Methinks," she whispers in clarion tones, 1
see a voice!" A noble vouth of 27 summers
scrapes the mud from his butes in the hall and
enters. - He is attired in a red shirt and black
trowsis which last air turned up over his butes.

CHAPTER II. -
WAB MOSES OF NOBLE BIRTH. 1
Moses was foreman of Ingine Kumpany Num
ber 40. The 40's had jest bin havin a pleasant
fite with tho 50's on the day I introjuce Moses to
my readers. He had his arms full of trofees, to
whit r 4 scalps, 5 I's, 3 fingers, 7 ears, whicii he
had chawed off, &c, &c. When Elizy (for that
was the lovely young lady s name; retiverea
from her s wotu she asked, - ,
. . How hast the buttle gone? Tell me !" 1
. " Elizy,"' said the brave young Lxan, drawin
hitelf up to his full hite, "we chawed 'em np
and smashed their old mersheen all ter peaces!"

" No," sez he, wildly ketchinghold of hissclf,
"you don't say so?" VJ
44 Indeed do I," she 6ed. "Your dead grand
father's sperret earnest to me the other nite and
sez he, " Moses is a Disguised Juke !" I
' Dost not the actors all call it Juke!" she
1 hat settled the matter.
I hav thought of this thing afore," sed
Moses abstractedly. " If it is so, then thus it
must be ! 2 It or not 2 11 that air's the question !
But no more of this now. Dry up. 0 life life,
you're too many for me "' He tore out some of
his pretty yeller hair, stamped on the floor wild
ly, and was gone.
, TUB PIRATE FOILED. . ''
Sixteen long and weary years has clapst since
the scene narrowated in the last chapter took
place. A noblo ship, the Sary Jane, is sailin
from France to Ameriky threw the Wabash
Canawl. A Pirut shin is in hot pursoot of the
Sarv Jane. The captinz of the skint Jane looks
fateefred k as thow he had lost all of his parunts.
The Pirut is clost on to him & ho is ubout civin
in, when a fine lookin feller in russet butes and a
bu Hitler overcut rushes forrcrd and sez to the
capting, sez he.
" Uld man! go down stares. Kctire to the
starboard bulkhed. Ho take charge of this arc
Owdashus cuss!" said the capting, "away
with thee or I shall do inur-rer der-r-r !"
Scarcely." nez the noble fdler. and ho drew
a diamond hilted sword and cut the capting's hed
"O that I bhud liv to bee urn a ded boddy!"
sed the capting, as he fell to the deck. He ex
pired shortly alterwards, oeing fatally killed.
" People! ' sed the noble lellcr, "Ime the Juke
de Moses!" :
" Old boss, methinks thow art blowin !" sed a
?routh of 40 summers, and the Juke cut off his
icd likewise. " Dont print any verses on my
Uetli in the noosenapers, screamed the uniortnit
young man as he fell ded on the deck, "fur if ycr
uo lie haunt ycr !
" People continnered the Juke, I alone kin
eave you from yon bluddy and unprincipled
piruts ! What hos there ! A peck of oats !" The
oats was immejitly brant. Ihe Juko took them
and bravely mounting the jibpoop he threw them
onto the tow path.- - In a minit the leeding boss
hitcht to the Pirut Bote cum along and etopt,
and commenced for to devour the oats! ,The
driver swore and hollered at hini terrible but he
wudn't budge a inch. Meenwhile the Sary Jane.
her bosses on the clean jump, was fast leavin the
1'irut ship ! -
' Onct again do I escape dctli !" sed the Juke
between his elenebt teeth, still on thejibpoop.
CHAPTER IV. 1
. THE WAXDEBER'S RETURN. .
saThe Juke was Moses the Sassy. He had bin in
France about 16 vears and now he was home acrin
in Bosting. He had sum trubble in gettin hissclf
acknowledged as I Jo. Ice in f ranee, as the Orleans
Dienasty and Borelxincs were fernenst him, but
ho finally conkered, and now he had crossed the
deep blue C to git his own Elizy. She knew
him to onct, as one of his ears and a portion of
his nose had bin chawed on in his rights with op
position firemen durin boyhood's sunny hours.
They were marridid and went to France, to re
side in their ducal Pallia which was gut up re
gard I is of expense. The had sevcrial children
and lived to a green old age, beluved "by all
both grate and small," as the Polick sez.
The Pirut Capting was captured, tride, convic
ted, and sentenced to read all tbe letters that
Messrs. Giddings and Wise shall write for the
ensooin 2 years. nis friends are endeverin to git
his sentunce commuted to imprisonment for life,
1 ' hour in each day to be devoted to rcadin the
Canada papers. He ses . this sentunce is wuser
nor tothcr one was. Still be don't care much as
long as he gits his meals regular.
This is my 1st attempt at writin a Tail & it is
far from being pcrfeck, but if I hav indooscd folks
to see that in 9 cases ont of 10 they can either
make Life as barren as the Dessert of Surah or as
ioyyuB as a flower garding, my objeck will hav
bin accomplished. Adoo.
