And thr'rUijh our f iilierlnj 1.m diaiil

Such hear of peace aa ibee requite
The Ubora of the w.ary week ;
When thua with aoa'a refmhrtl anil bright,
Forgiveneaa of our ilni wc aeek !
Oh ! help ui. Jau, to conf rm
Oar apiritt, lhaughta anl lire to Thine
H'yonJ thin earth! itrife and au.rrn
Oh ! make Thy alar of I , to abine !
Wh-n w are slnkir-e In the brine
Of doubt and rare oh, come that we,
A Peter did, may safe resign
Oar (inking heiplroneta to Thee !
Oar wayward footatepa wander wide.
Pursuing Joy's delanire rays ;
And in our hours of health and pride.
Too ft from Ttee oar spirit strays ;
But soon U-cen 1 the darker days,
When youth an I strength their luster hide
And, Joorniylng through a pathless maze,
We turn to our neglected Guide !
Lead back. Oh , Lord ! Thy wandering hp
Ob. guide us gently to Thy fold !
Instruct us all Thy lavs to keep,
A od onto Thine oar lire to mould !
For we are weak, and faith grow cold
Nor ever sle-p the tempter's powers ;
Thou art our only stay and hold
Through Thee alone can nearen It ours !
A darker shade, a denser gloom
Descends on ail the f.Ued dowers ;
While silent as the voiceleas tomb,
Above them roll Ihe midnight hours ;
To-morrow's d.iwn, and Iheir perfume
Again will fill their glowing bowers
Lord , afur death so bid us bloom.
Where no frost chills, no tempest lowers !
What cldi? of workmen are alwavs on a strike,
no matter what their wagea are? blacksmiths.

Old Bledsoe, although he is a very profane,
wicked man, looks very youthful for his years.
One of his neighbors remarked to Mrs. Bledsoe,
the other day, " The old man is wearing well,
isn't he?" " Oh, yes," replied the old woman ;
he's swearing well enough as it goes, but
considering the opportunities and practice he's
had, he might put a little more polish into
The Home Journal objects to the wearing
of diamonds when travelling because it is vul

of such vulgarity. We have occasionally taken
a ride with a lawyer, but there are some, depths
to which we cannot sink. Norwich Bulletin.

Danbury IWtrs; A writer in Scribncr has an
article on the subject, "How to keep the boys
on the farm." He evidently means well, but he
doesn't touch the point
To keep boys on the
farm, the farm sliould be well paved and lighted
with gas, and have a band-stand, and billiard
tables, and its own bar and race-course, we hope
our farmers are just as anxious as tbey appear to
be to keep their boys on the farm, but they don't
seem to take any definite action.
A story is told of two worthy New England
deacons, between whom a bitter feud had long
existed concerning 6ome contested point. Nei
ther would yield, and the matter threatened to
be handed down to the next generation, wben
one day Deacon Smith appeared before his old
enemy and solemnly said: "Brother Jones, it is

Overwhelming a Hapft Father. A funny
story regarding Mr. S. and an acquisition is told

A Toad Story. Dr. Macdorcald, of Ward's
