No part of this ssm can be drawn, except by the order of the Board for the payment of thejust at and legal debts and, the proper expenses of the ad , m nistatioent of the oetale. The report states that the city property is almost the only productive portion of the estate, and adds : It. appeaasthat the estate has yielded for this last year$tO;800e The amount of city taxes for 1856, due In 1 .6, andbnow pressedfor by suit, is $16000. if it be deided that the city of New Orleans has the right to tax the real property of the estate in the city, and the amount of tax deducted from the revenue $26,800-the net revenue would thereby be reduced to $10,800. The Board present this view in respect to the net reveque to show how small it is, and how much the interests of the cities and of those who are to partake of the beneltes of the charities of the testa tor would he advanced by & partition of this large es tate. Supposing the estate to be worth two millions, and that sum to-be invested In bonds yielding 6 per cent., the retenae would' ten be (of course free from all the expenses of a4minsltration now weighing on the estateand consuming it) $120,000, or $60,000 for each city. The report further strongly urges the necessity of a partition of the estate, and states that a petition therefor was last winter filed in one of the District Courts, but the city of Baltimore had the cause re moved to the U. S. Circuit Court, and the counsel for New Orleans then discontinued it. He commenced another suit in the State Court, to which he has made the Orphan Boys' Asylum of New Oileans, and the American Colonization Society par ties along with the city of Baltimore, for thepurpose i of having the legacies to those corporations legally and properly adjusted and settled with the cities, in order that a complete and final partition may at once be decreed and made. The decision lately made in the case of the Orphans' Asylum, will tend to for ward and facilitate the partition and final settlement of the estate. It is believed that if no obstacle or delay be interposed, the whole partition may be effected In a short time. Mr. Bonford, counsel of the Board, submits a re port upon the condition of the estate with respect to all claims, suits, and other matters pertaining to its interests. The litigation includes cases important in respec to the principles involved andthe amounts in dispute. One of these is the claim of the heirs of the late Shepherd Brown, of whom Mr. McDonogh was testa mentary executor. The object of the suit is to re cover the interest of three of the heirs of Shepherd i Brown, in all the property of which the succession was composed, and for which it is asserted that Mr. McDonogh has never legally accoulted for to the par ties in interest. This claim was the object of a suit in 1 23, result s ing on a judgment against Mr. McDonogh, which was paid. The resent plaintiffs claim that they were then minors, and that the judgment was nothing more than a contract of compromie, in which they were not fairly represented. Thegase has been tried in the Second District Court of New Orleans, and judgment rendered in favor of plaintiffs for 11-192 parts of SBrown's estate. The report says : From this decree an appeal has been taken on be half of the two cities, whiuch is now penlieg in the Supreme Court. It is difficult to estimate the amount of loss to the two cities under this jAdgmendt, shonld it be confirmed by the appellute tribunal. It may, however, reach the considerabie sum of lo00o000. Repeated conferences with the eminent counsel who have been specially retained to protect the interests of tile cities, warrant the expression of my stlro-, confidence that the decision of the inferior court will be reversed on the appeal. The second case involtres the claims of one of the particular legatees of Mr. Mclonogh-the Society for the relief of destitute Orphan Boys--against the cities as his universal successors. A conditional judg. meot for the sum of $400,000 has been rendered it this case, against the defendants to become executory efb d they fha IF S the eig the ht f then b re Court reversed gr t, I Se cities to ¢y anuhtn I tbhn the eighth of the net yearly revenue, oc I ttdiied t yweryi ut In possession. The Second Dis , trit-Courtharesndered jqdgment in favor of the es tate, from which an appeal, taken by the city of New 1 Orleans, is now pending and undetermined. t T alk on 'chasnge-Aceommodatlons. The streets were thronged again yesterday, and K. where so many visitors find accommodations is sub r ject for remark; with only three large hotels, it is supposed one day's arrivals would ov$rfll them. There are, to be sure, several first class private boarding e houses; but they, with the hotels, are altogether in af adequate to meet the wants of increasing visitors of the first rise in the waters of the Western rivers will i bring thousands to enjoy the pleasures of our city and e, the mild climate. Then, again, the Jackson and a, Opeleouas Railroads are bringing hundreds, who come in one day and go out the next, and who never o thought of visiting New Orleans until the railways w commenced to run by their doors. But what most impresses on the mind of the mpartial observer, is the se certain and sure advance -in the city. We can, with is a considerable degree of pride, point to the improve e. meets in the vicinity eof the depot of the Jackson t, Railroad. During these warm and pleasant days, it is would not be amiss forsome of our antiquated a- citizens, who have scarcely been above Poydras street e- far the last two years, to take a perambulation in that n direction. It would be suggestive for.'ltom to re member when the New Npsin and Whit/v street were the extreme limits of the city in that direction, and now raqiec on the extension fod squares beyond the foregoing line. A good hotel is much wanted in the neighborhood of the depot, and we doubt not it would to prove a most profitable investment. It would not require any large amount of capital to erect one and put it in operation, provided the proper persons should be selected for its management. There are g many enterprising builders who would in all proba bility join in the undertaking. The ground is there, a and materials of all kinds are in the immediate g neighborhood. There was a fair amount of business going on yes terday on the levee. Cotton is going on shipboard n with rather more activity than for some weeks past. o The arrivals of vessels are pretty numerous, and they 91 .all bring more or less cargo. The business at-the Custom-House continues unusually large, and every i employee appears to be occupied. We did not ob serve any " dead heads " in that vicinity when we were there yesterday. Mr. Guthrie is, however, more liberal than MSr. Postmaster-General Campbell, and allows, we believe, Collector Porter ample assistance ; o whereas, Mr. Postmaster Nevitt has no more force than there was ten years ago, and the business of the Post-Office has greatly increased and is likely to do so. Alluding to the Post-Office, we have to state that the mails have not yet got into line-something like most of our banks, out of line-though we learn that a late mail may come to hand to-day, and that one hundred and fifty bags of newspapers have been re go ceived in Mobile, en route for this city. In the meantime, we observe some cotton centle = men congregating on the corner, and can only further add, that cotton is cotton, though the Baltic and Africa, from Liverpool, were unheard of last evening. - But exchange purchases and discounts by the banks can hardly be expected to-day, only in extremely small sums. to PROFITABLE FRIIENDSnHI.-M-r.
