Since the 24th September, 40 vessels from sea have ar rived at our levee, mostly large vessels, and i2 steamboats from the interior-say 110 arrivals--and how many of these brought less on an average than fifty persons, the majority of whoml were lit subjects for the fever? We verily believe there have arrived in the city within the last fifteen days between seven and eight thousand persons subject to the fever. Is it any wonder that our hospitals, our charitable asso ciation reports, with the private practice of our phy sicians, and themnrtuary returns, show no larger de crease than they do? As we remarked on the 20lth of August, after the fever was consideted as an epi demic, that it would take sixty to eighty days Ior it to run its course, we are not disappointed at tile re sult; and it is more than probable that our talk will prove correct. Our permuanent and acclimated resi dents are returning daily. In fact, so far as the sea shore suburbs are concerned, old residents might as well be in the city. The talk is that the pine woods country is impoverilted, and canntot supply tile re quisite marketing for the sojourners on cthIe sea-lhore. The disciples of Ilaak Walton do not ect with tilhe usual luck in lishing, and at some of the watering. places it is with great difliculty that daily marketing is procured. On the line of the Jackson Railroad the fare and supplies are better. Our advices from New York, to the evening of tile 30th ult., give us to understand that tilere are hun dreds, perhaps we might say thousands, of persons waiting for the abatement of the sickness. As we said to them last mouth, they call with safety rctulu about the slt of Novemlber. The probation to that time will be healthful to them. The talk for two days past was of'c probibility of a change in the weather; but it turned out, tip to last evening, all probability, fornot a scintilla of a chanlge was realized. The clouds looked watery, and a little sprinkling of rain was all. tHowever, as we have had just such weather at this season of tihe year beline, there is nothing extraordinary in tile course ot the elements. There was not much going forward on Carondelet street yesterday. Many parties were occup.lcd in the early part of the day in perusing and replying to their correspondence by tile Arabia. Po.sil ly they will get to work to-day, particularly if tile Canada's advices of the 25th ult, ale received, and sustain the advices of the 22d. The receiptsof cotton yesterday were :330 bhales. including the receipts by tile Jackson Railroad on Tuesday night. The receipts for thle corrlesponding day last year were lbitO bales. By the following letter frolm our correspondent in Liverpool, it will be seen that his views of the future for cotton are of great consumption and a further ad vance in prices: tn eoterluencO on prices, e t Th e b er arx d'nxe to tl0 e crop I,0 wr-- or tr hlux tnnretld r. null "ve.y autc, ..t-t . r rs.t ,to 'r sre eoton t,ll wantned th tver befoC) 1,,r t,, L. at e y Refr roincloet dorp,c ' a u ,. This being the greatest sea fight of modern times, and the first Christian victory over the Turks at sea, it created the most immense sensation throughout the Christian world. 1492--The ship Nitna, of Columbos's fleet, beise ahead, supposed she had discovered land, and hoisted a flag and fired a gun. This proving to be a mistke, an insubordination broke out among the crews of the different vessels; and Columbus and his brother commanders had to agree that if land were not reached in three days more of westward sail, they would put back for Spain. 929-Charles the Simple, of France, died in prison, having been taken in battle by Hugh, seven years previously.
