Frcm the Memphis Avalanche, May ICth:
" .Le Arkansa tis falling, with five feet in the
channil from Little Rock out. White river is
again rising slowly at its head. The St. Fran'is I
river is reported falling slowly. The rise in the
upier streams continues. The river here rose one
inch in the past twenty-four hours, and has risen
al-tog.ther since Sunday four and a half inches.
The tow-heat Pick Fulton, with ten barges or
coal for Natchez, and the tow-boat Simpson
hl.mer, with eleven Iarges of coal for Vicksburg,
left l. uisville on Wednesldy. Business on 'he
hart :s a(,out played out, with no movetient iu
frieghts worthy of mention."
lrim the Cairo Democrat, May 15th:
" The weather was cloudy and dark until noon,
when the cloods grew thinner and the sun shown
out clear and warm. There is now a prospect of
clear weather ahead. The Ohio is on the decline
ab ve, and there is indications that it will soon be
faai:t.g here. It has risen four inches in the last
twenty-founr ho.urs.
From the Cincinnati Gasette, May 15th:
" Business was cor-iderably better than on the
previous day, still It was not good. We note one
del arture for Memphis, one for Pittsburg and one
for Marietta--none of them with very good trioie.
There were no arrivals outside the regular pack
et,. tQuite a fleet of boats were expected, how
evwer, which will be found at the wharf this morun
irg. We know of but one boat actually recelvivg
for New Orleans, although there are four at the
what f."
'l he St. louis Democrat, May l1th, says:
SWe are satifled that fea-s of a farther rise
of the rvers at present may be dismissed. The
rivr is faling here, and we th:nk th )se above are
all on 'ue de, line. It wes not only a dull bust
niess day, but a dull I-ciday. Nearly the usual
nlmbier of boats arrived wl'h good cargoes, iat
the departures were few in number-only ten
aitogethe r."
From Iouisville Courier, May lIth :
"The river wes talling slowly yesterday, with
17 feet water in the canal, 13 feet in the chute
and 14 feet on the rocks-a decline of six inches
since our last replort. Business on the wharf wa*
terribly dull yesterday. T[e John Kb'gour has
abandoned her trip, and will lay up for a few
days. The Belle l.ee will take her freight and
also that received for the LoutsviPe. The Legal
Tender will follow the Belle I.ee to New Orleans,
leaving this port Tuesday. The P. W. Strader
will leave the city wharf at 12 M. today for New
Orleans. 'Ihe towboat Lake Erie, with ten boats
of coal, left early yesterday morning for New ():
leans. The new Uited States anagboat J. J.
Ablert, up to the 1:th inst.. had removed ninety.
tlree s.ags from the Mississippi river. tetween
Cairo and St. Louie. They are all doing good
etrtice.
Frimn Cincinnati Commercial, May 1,:
" 'lhe weather was mild and clouty yesterday,
wi:h a light drizzling rain nearly all day, with the
wind from the southwest last night. Here the
river has fallen six inches during the twenty-four
hours ending last night, with thirty seven teet in
the channel by the WVaterworks truk, anl sixty
ive feet under the Covington bridge for passig
steasters."
IFr-mr St. Lcnis I)emrcrat, May I1:
"There is a remarkable redundancy of New
Orleans tonnage, as will be seen by the tact, that
under the prevailing " compromise" arrange
mnnt, the Commonwealth, wLich arrived on Wed
nesday, will not commence to load until two
weeks after next Monday, there being in piort to
load before her those large steamers Bismarok,
