FoaxiGN Excutsta--The movement in Ster- frc

character to-day. The market was but poorly Ba
supplied at best with commercial offerings, and
the remittance demnnnd was quite limited through. ff

will be seen by the subjoined statement of actual us

Cor-roN--The very favorable advice, received
from Liverpool and New York to-day have im
parted considerable strengthto this market. Fac
tors and holders materially advanced their prices
at an early hour, and most buyers who had dis
cretionary orders to Sll seemed to regret that they
did not execute them yesterday. The offering
supply was at no time better than moderate, how
ever. and the demand, which was somewhat gen.a
eral In the morning, became quite restricted as
the day advanced owing to the high presentiones of i
factors. The aggregate ress amounted to only 1
477 bales at the foHlownag enhanced quotations,

Business was rather dull upon the landing yee
terday, and the departing steamer, with but few
excepti us. had light trip. s
We have no change to report in the weather.
Yesterday we were again bleat (') with a olear B
sky, and old Hel did h level eet-jt tried,
in fact, to see bow iaagreeable he could make
the steamboat landing, which locality is beyond a
doubt the warmest place in town. If the clerk of
the weather would favor as with a good hard
shbwer, we would in common with thousands of
others tender him a vote of thanks. The dust is
becoming intolerably thick on our river grade.
B7 a slp of the pen we were made to my in
our lt issue that the Cleona would leave thio ite
for Treaton and Monroe every Teeeday evening t
5 o'clock. We hasten to correct the error. Y e
will continue to leave as advertined: every Wed
uesday evening at 5 o'clock.
The J. M. Sharp. having been unavoidably de
tained from leaving yesterday, has deferred her
departure to Friday, 6th inst., at 5 P. M. r
The regular weekly Shreveport packet National, ,,
Capt. Richard Sinnott. leaves at 5 o'clock this t
evening. She takes freight and passengers for
Jefterson with privilege of reshtpptmg at Shreve
pert. The National will hereafter leave every shl
Thursday evening for Shreveport.
The weekly packet Lafourche has changed her tbli
day, and will in future leave this city for Shreve
port every Tuesday at 6 P. r.
The favorite Red River packet Mittle Stephens r
will arrive to day, and leave on her return trip on 1,t

The arrivals yesterday embraced the Alaska,

Thie S:eamb at Captains' As-ociation elected A

us with a liht of the successful aspirants, we refer tr.

reporter evidently had " friends at court." m
No change in the river before the city since our t
last.
The following ramed steamers left port yester- 1

Icy atnd J. G. Blackford. for Washington; Grey

the Cleona, Capt. Patterson, for Monroe and

The Wild Wagoner had a good freight. The ba

packet leaves at 5 o'clock tomorrow evening.
FROM OUR EXtCHANiGEd.
The Cincinnati Gazette of June Ist, says: bt.
" The weather was excessively warm r4aturday 21
and inoday. Business has been so dull the past
week as scarcely to be worthy aparagraph. Judg
ing by the amount of river transportation, Cinciu
nati is not selling goods to the former extent. b
Whether other cities are doing a better business is
an open question. The river fell two aon a hall
feet Into the forty-eight hours preceding 6 o'clock a
last evening, when there were fifteen feet water in
ti.e chanel, and eighty-seven feet space under
the suspension bridge. A New Orleans steamer,
partially advertised. received scarcely any freight
dunrng the same three days. at rates not more than ie
five cent- above those to Memphis. The West
nmreland arrived about midnight Saturday. from
Newgt(rienos. She will probably commence to
relo:ad inimediately. "d
-From the bt. Louis Republican, June 1 :
The weather yesterd sy left nothong for the most
fastldcius to desire. being in every sense of the h
word most delightful. Arrivals were of regular I.
packets only, although several of the steamers sm
were past due, and will, doubtless, be found at ,,,
the landing at an eary hour to day. Cayt J. H. do
Peppers a mammoth steamer for the St. Louis an l60
New Orleans trade, will be launched from Ramble- .x
ton's boat yard, at Cincinnati, sme time this B
week. The new boat is described as a perfect
monster. The Dubuque Herald of Saturday says: da
The weather is clear and pleasant; freights quiet: +
river receding at the rate of three inches in 24
h urs. The Great Republic is the next boat in
the Compromise line, hut if the rule that so far ao
held good of allowiug a discriminstion of rates A
. of freibht in favor of the barges, there is no tei
Im g when she will get a load, but certainly not or
by Tuesday evening, and we suggest that " barge 11
rates" be the motto.
The St. Nicholas. Capt. Dowty, from Grand
Ecore: Vickeburg. Capt Blanks, from Trenton:
iGen. Quitman. from Vickaborg, and Idahoe, from si
