Groesbeck had not arrived from New Orleans at a late hour last evening. bat will be here to day to return on Wednesday. I [Cincinnati Gazette, Dec. 14. The Alice Dean, for New Orleans, had not ar. rived up to dark last night. We learn that Prof. Pontaine, of New Orleans, is to address the citisens generally, and merchante particularly, at the Board of Trade rooms, at 1 o'clock to-day, upon the feasibility of deepening the channel at the mouth of the Misslsippi. He also can illustrate the practicability of removing I the obstructions to the river trade by deepening the channel also of preventing the caving In of the banks of the Mississippi. There is something to learn by hearing his lecture, and engineers, as well as others, are invited. r The towboat Rover, from St. Louts, with two barges of iron in tow, arrived at the foot of the canal last night. The J. KH Broesbeck, from New Orleans to Cincinnati, was also at the foot of the canal, last evening. Both probably got through s last night. The Louisville and Louisiana arrived from New Orleans yesterday. The latter had 3000 bars of railroad aron. The Louisiana will lay up to repair damages, and the Louisville will re turn to New Orleans on Tuesday. The Legal Tender, from New Orleans to this port, arrived at Vicksburg Wednesday, three days out. She was loaded nearly to the guards, having five bohundred tone of railroad iron, and a big show 1 of miscellaneous freight. She was compelled to put off two hundred tons of iron at Bayou Sara, in order to facilitate her proresu. The Riohmond left for New Orleans yesterday, with a splendid trip of freight, stock and people.
