Combination.
Chicago, Sept. 11. The new
$500,000,000 beef trust has Sep
tember 27th set as the date of its
birth by the meeting of the packers
concerned in the deal that was held
this afternoon in the First National
Bank building in this city. On and
after that day this immense indus
trial combination will be in open
and active operation.
Today's meeting heard reports
of the removal of the obstacles in
the way of the consolidation of the
beef-packing companies, and peo
ple in close touch with the owners
of those concerns declare that the
deal will be carried on to conclu
sion. Perhaps as good a sign as
any of the favorable turn in the
conditions was a sharp advance in
Swift & Co., stock today on the
local exchange. It opened at 156,
was brought up to 165 and closed
1 point tinder the top.
