1 UEI.EIIKATE THE FOURTH.
Numerous SutrircsUoiifi Mitdc An
other Meeting Tomorrow Night.
The mass meeting called last
Friday evening to consider pre
liminaries for celebrating the Fourth
of July fell upon a storming night,
but a good beginning was made. J.
U. Smith was asked to take the
chair as temporary chairman and
L. W Haworth was made tem
porary secretary. It was agr:cd
to c?U another meeting Saturday
evening April 18, when permanent
officers will be chosen. The chair
man selected that evening will have
the appointing of committees for the
general work to be done.
At the meeting Saturday night it
was the unanimous opinion that a
display of fire-works should be made
a special feature of this year's
celebration. The opinion was ex
pressed that it would not be desir
ablr this year to attempt a street
parade in the morning. The fore
noon for speeches and Literary
feasting; the afternoon and evening
for sport and fun. J. U. Smith
suggested that it might.be wise for
the Fourth of July committee to see
the Vqlcano Stables people about
leasing Hoolulu park for the day.
It was thought the committee, in
this way might make a big share
of the expenses ' of the day by the
sale of priveleges. This matter
was left to be taken up by the pro
per committee. F. Brughelli re
ported that there were two crack
base-ball teams in the city of Asia
tic extraction which might afford a
lot of fun with a game on the
Fourth. He said the "Dragons"
of,iIqi;g Kong and the Japs from
Yokohoma would put up a specta
cular contest on the Diamond and
thought the boys should be encour
aged in their adoption of the, Amer
ican game.
The suggestion of a dance at the
new wharf in the evening was also
favorably received.
A, general invitation is extended
to the people of Hilo to be on hand
Saturday night.

Eighty Skeletons or Spanish Fighters
Found In Hold.
Manila, P. I., April 13. The
Spanish cruiser Reina Christina,
which was sunk by the American
fleet in the battle of Manila bay,
was raised today. Eighty skeletons
were found in her hold, these being
of those who were' either killed in
the battle or drowned when the
vessel sunk.
Admiral Montojo had his flag on
the Reina Christina during the
naval battle. Finding that, he
could not rely on the shelter of the
Cavite guns, Montojo sailed 'forth
from his line against Dewey's flag
ship Olympia. He was met with
such an 'awful concentrated fire
from the American vessels that he
turned his ship and made for the
breakwater, but the gunners of the
Olympia sent an eight-inch shell
through the stern of the Reina
Christina and this penetrated the
whole extent of the ship to the en
gine room where it exploded with
awful destruction, setting fire to
the vessel. It is probable that the
skeletons found in the hold of the
raised cruiser were those of the
men who came in contact with the
destruction of the Olympia's eight-
inch shell,
