' Two questions of vital impor-,

cussed and action . taken by the !
association.
The first related to
the association's rice kitchen at the
St. Louis Fair, and the second had
leferencc to the Cuban reciprocity
tteaty. The association has taken
steps to raise and spend $20,000 in
maintaining a rice kitchen for the
purpose of advertising rice.
The object is to extend the do
mestic market for the product.
While there is no present danger of
the supply exceeding the demand,
the association believes it is good
policy constantly to strengthen de
mand, so that it may keep ahead of
any possible increase of production.
It is the aim of the association to
make rice a staple article of food.
.The association adopted a resolu
tion offered by Charles J. I5eer,
I president of the Rica Millers and
! Distributors' Association of I.otiis-
iana and Tixns, providing for the
appointment of a committee of three
I to go to Washington and present to
Congress, at its extra session, the
claims of rice to free entry into

Republican nomination for County
Assessor of West Hawaii county.
The convention saw him too and
went him one better, and the result
is that, instead of being one of the
orators of the Republican campaign,
Fennell is now "among those pres
ent who received the candidates
with the greatest enthusiasm."
But the Republican nomination
for a county office was but the nat
ural culmination of the succession
of things I'ennell had been seeing
for months before. Among other
things he sighted "was a piece of
the brilliant meteor that flashed
across the Island of Hawaii some
months ago." The average citizen
was content with relating how he
had seen the meteor in its flight,
but Kcnnell, being of a vivid imag
ination, was not satisfied until he
had discovered somebody who had
actually seen a piece of detached
meteor steaming and sizzling in the
