It is with genuine gratitude I bear testimony to the efficacy of COOK'S BALM OF LIFE. Besides being a great sufferer with DYSPEPSIA in its many forms, I had frequent attacks of ERUCTIONS OF GAS from the stomach, which lasted from three to seven hours, and were followed by very distressing and alarminjr SINKING SPELLS, and for which I could And no remedy until I called upon Dr. Dexter, of Washington. D. C, who told me that the best medi cine for that symptom, and one he often prescribed for his patients, was COOK'S BALM OF LIFE. I immediately procured a bottle, and after taking three doses my stomach was relieved, and before I had used one-half the con tents of the bottle that particular condition of my stomach was overcome, and now, after five years and having had no recurrence of the trouble, I feel safe in saying that the BALM CURED ME, for It is the first and only thing that gave me relief. I have by its use learned Its value in other directions also, and consider It ONE OF THE VERY BEST FAMILY MEDICINES IN THE WORLD, and think myself unfortunate when I am without it. Hoping that others may be as much benefited by Its use as T have been, I am sincerely yours, HELEN McCRARY. Washington, D. a, December 9, 1S70. PROFESSOR COOK. Which end of that cigar are you going to put in your mouth ? " inquired the dealer of the re porter as the latter cut off the closed end of a Ji cent cigar, "Why the end I have just cut," lie replied. "Why do you ask V" ''Because," re plied the cigar dealer, "to get the most enjoy ment out of that cigar you are doing the worst thing possible. I'll explain. In making cheap cigars a good enough wrapper Is used as good often as on the finer grades. Havana filler is U6ed in a measure, but does not run the length of the cigar as in the better goods. It usually ends about an Inch from tho extremity of the butt or end that is generally placed in the mouth, and poor light weed raised lu the Northern States, and of a grade similar to dried cabbage, Inserted. In smoking the fi-ccut cigar all the smoke, of course, passes through this miserable stuff, which makes Jttahto badly. Now, if you will only reverse the cigar and cut off tho mouth end, light it and puff away you will onjoy it very nearly as much as a finer cigar." How tho Fight Began Scene in the Police Courts "Judge, my father sent mo to the druggist on tho corner for a bottle of Cook's Balm of Llfo, and gave me seventy-five cents to pay for it. I went to tho druggist and asked for a bottle of Cook's Balm of Life, and the druggist's clerk aBked me what my father was taklmr it for. 1 told him the old gent was suffering from dys pepsia. He 6ays, ' Why don't you take my prep aration? We know what's In this.' lie insisted so liui d upon it that I took It homo to my father. When father seen it he said, 'This Is not what I sent you for.' But I told him tho druggist in sisted on my taking it and I took it. My father says, 'When I send you for Cook'6 Balm of Life I want Cook's Balm of Life, not this prepara tion or a bottle of ink,' Papa gave my nose an awful pull and sent me back to the druggist, Tho druggist refused to exchange it; then tho fight ensued, aud I licked tho clerk."
