The race for the championship of the Hawaiian Islands, between the Heal&ni and Myrtle boat clubs, will be rowed over tho race course at Pearl harbor to-morrow afternoon, at fonr n'cU-ck. The crews of the respective boats hare been in training for some titre past, and are in splendid trim to row. An tocciiiug race may be expected. Ai pinued, are the names of the cruvs in this contest; 1 (EAt.Nis.-Jas. Sptucer (stroke), Chris. Holt, Et. Holt, John Holt, W. H. G. Greig, and Clarence Mac fariane biw). Coxswain, Ch:tF. HerrlcK. If there ;s anything in a name, the Healanis surely ought to hnl(d)t- the championship. The J. C. Pfluger. The bark. J. C. Pflnger fr.m Bremen, was docked this m rning. The vessel experienced very rough weather off Cape Horn, which lasted twenty-live days. During tho heavy weather, two large seas struck the ship, one on either sidOjidmost simultaneously doing a great deal of damage. The starboard bulwark which is of iron, was stove in nearly the whole of its length. The iron stanchions were suapped in two as if made of clay pipe stems. The starboard fi re stays became loos ended, which necessibited the rigging up of jury stays made fast to an extra spar ou the deck. The head of the foremast was sprung, and to save the topmast, tho top gallant and royal masts, and lower topsail yard were sent "down on d-ck. Tho starboard side of the deck appears to have sagged somewhat. Altogetht r the vessel has had a rough handling, from the hands of tho sea-gods. Good Enough. Wo understand, that the gov ernment electric light employees were busily engaged tlrs morn ing, between tho second bridge and Judd street, trimming-trees to clear tho bell telephone wires. Tho electric light wires are on tho opposite side of the street. No doubt, it was alright. Band Concert. There is a- well established, theory that crops and prices vary up and down in certain regular cycles of ime and that at re-current intervals waves of insanity suicitle, murder and other manias and maladies pass over the earth. To the calm and. dispassionate observer, it certainlv seems that j one of these waves of, insanity struck Honolulu hist January and is still a prevalent mabtdy. How else can we accunni for the action of a certaiu clique of Honolulu's citizens in rushing' to overturn, the settled and peace ful order of society and precipita ting a.crisis that has piralyzed. business, embittered social rela tions, and foisted a various milita ry despotism upon the people. Dole, Damon, Hatch, Smith, Jones, Thurston, Castle, names that have been honored by Xing and Queen and Hawaiian people? men who have been respected ami distinguished citizens on the Bench, at the Bar, in finance and commerce, suddenly ally iugthem solvse with a mob of political banditti hungry for powerand tho spoils of office. And cut iono f The claim that they wanted "good government" is a base and scandalous lie unworthv the men who, once honored, in tho land, have by their insane freak, cast a dark shadow of shame over their names that will perforce festoon one of tho darkest pages of Hawaiian history. , Human government is but frail and weak at its best. Prior to January last, Hawaii's history was a fairly .good record of self government, marred principally by tho vicious intrigues of the iusolent cliquo who now set them selves up as the only competent men in Hawaii. Insane gods of a cycle. Is tho present despotic oligar chy an- better than the late 'monarchy? Not having been struck by the insane wave, wo fail to see ii Let us hope the cycle will som p ss away, dethroned reas"n re sume its sway, and the gods of Justice restore the people's govern ment, and shame the creatures, of the insane cycle, whom we trust will nover bo afflicted again.
