Tho Sydney Evening iTeto says:
It is understood that tho wholo of
tho officers and crows' of one oi tho
finest mail steamers that visits tho
port of Sydney (tho Zealandia)
havo tendered their resignations to
tho agents of tho vessel. The cause
of the complaint is tho alleged ex
tremely harsh and over-bearing con
duct of the captain. Tho officers aro
very popular in Sydney.
Tho schooner Jennie Walko
when off Molokai last Friday, nearly
drifted ashore on that island. Her
boat was lowered with a crew of
men to tow her off, while doing so,
a puff of wind struck tho schooner,
and forging her ahead, ran over tho
boat, and smashed it. Tho crow
saved themselves by clinging to tho
head-gear of the sohooner.
Tho bark Caibarien .sailed for
San Franoisco yesterday with a
cargo consisting of G4I5 pkgsof
sugar, 1887 bags rice, 63 pkgs
sperm oil, 314 bdls green hides,. 61
dry hides, 7 rolls leather, 74 bxs
soap, 4 rolls duck, 55 empty barrels;
8 bxs personal effects, 1 bx scienti

At Hakalau, Hawaii, .on Wednes
day, tho 8th inst., a whale-boat, in
coming out to the assistance of the
schooner Malolo's boat, which was
towing a loaded scow, got capsized
in the breakers, and a man named
Joseph Potter drowned. His body
was found a short time afterwards,
under the boat, entangled in some
cordage. He was buried the same
evening. The deceased had been in
the employ of tho Hakalau Planta
tion for more than two years. He
was . from California last, but was
probably a native of one of the
Western States, Ho had served in
the Cavalry of tho U. S. Army
during the late war. Mr. Lehman,
the manager, took chargo of his
effects.
