Hawaiian sugar from San Francisco
to St. Louis, says: How this will
affect tho agitation of a repeal of
tiie Hawaiian Reciprocity Treaty re
mains to be seen. It 'will certainly
be used as an additional argument
against the continuance of the
treaty. Siich a possible competi
tion with Louisiana sugar will
strengthen tho opposition.
News was received yesterday
from 'Waialua, .that a fine stream of
water was flowing from tho Artesian
Well, which is being bored for Mr.
;G,aspar Sylva, at Mokuleia, a short
distance beyond Mr. Hals to ad's
placo at Waialua. The water began
to flow last Tuesday, from a deptii
of 400 feet. The well was 415 feet
deep on Wednesdayand would b"o
bored still deeper, to obtain ji larger,
Bupply. Tho water will flow over a
pipe six feet high above the ground.
The stream f-water flowing -over
the plains i blslqtv the well is com
pared to a small sizedrivcr, so great
is the quantity.

Feb. has tho following: The trade
was surprised this morning by an
advance of -Jo in all grades of white
sugar. No change has been mado
in yellows. Several car-loads of
Bugar havo gone from this city
direct to St. Louis, because our re
finers would not take tho consign
ments as fast as the importers de
sired. Mr. Dodd has put up a supply
hydrant on tho comer of King and
Nuuanu streets, for the purpose of
filling his water-carts. Three more
win po put up, ono on tno espla
nade, another by tho Pantheon
Stables, and one more on Iicrutania
street. The pipo is carried up high
enough to admit the cart being
driven under it to be filled.
