of Representatives requesting that

gation of tho Hawaiian Reciprocity
Treaty was forwarded to Washing
ton by tho Secretary of tho Board of
Ti ado and Transportation yesterday.
It is asserted in the petition that tho
Treaty has been taken advantage of
bv a syndicate of capitalists to de
velop enormously the production of
sugar in tho Sandwich Islands,
which is admitted frco of duty in
the United States, thus discriminat
ing against other sugar-producing
nations and injuring domestic sugar
interests. Tho petition is signed by
several hundred Arms, including all
the sugar importing and refining
trado, together with a largo repre
sentation of manufacturers and mer
chants doing business with sugar
producing countries. Among tho
