The Band gave a concert of seven
selections at tho rotunda of tho
Hotel last evening, and tho night
being fine, tho verandahs were full
of listeners, and tho streets of car
riages and pedestrians. This was
Concert No. 213.
There was a landslido on the
mountain back St Waimalu, one
day last week, said to have been an
interesting sight to look at from a
distance huge rocks and masses of
earth carried everything before them
with a noise resembling thunder.
A memorial service, in honor of
tho memory of tho late President
James A. Garfield, was held by
Congress in the Capitol at Washing
ton, on tho 28th February The
Diplomatic Corps attended in full
regalia, and were headed by tho
Hawaiian Minister as Dean of the
Corps. A paper containing an ac
count of tho service may be seen at
our store.
A sad accident happened atKa-
lihi, on Snuday last. An interesting
half-caste child, a girl about 7 years
old, had been bathing in company
with grown persons in the stream.
Being misled, search was made by
diving, and the body found in n deep
eddy, but life was extinct. She
had arrived that morning from
Maui, where her father Mr.
Cruz resides, on a visit to
relatives.

There was a real burglary and an
attempt at safe smashing, on Sunday
evening at Mr. Win. Johnson's
store on Fort street, near the comer
of Merchant, which is jointly oc
cupied by Mr. Clark, watchmaker.
Tho thief or thieves entered throngh
tho back window and by breaking a
bolt on the door, cot access to the
front room wherein was tho safe, the
object of the visit. This was con
siderably nicked, and on top was a
pair of tailor's shears with tho points
broken. A pocket-knife (which tho
owner can prooably have by call
ing for it, etc.,) was found on the
floor, and also scattered matcnes.
Mr. Johnson lost a suit of clothes
from his tailors department, but Mr.
Clark misses nothing. The woik
was evidently not that of an adept
or professional burglar, but looks
like an attempt of a bungler.
