Attempted Assassination

on the evening of the 2nd inst,
while s' ". was ontennjr her carriage
at Windsor Railroad Station. She
htitl arrived at Windsor from Lon--don,
and was walking across the
plat fm in of tho rnilway station to
the carriage, which wns waiting to
take her to the Castle, when a man
standing at the entrance of the
station yard, among tho spectators,
pointed Ids pistol at the carriip and
llro'l. No one was hurt. It caused
great excitement. The man was im
mediately seized, and taken to the
"Windsor Police Station.
The miscreant gives his name as
Roderick MncLean, and is a dis
charged lunatic. Two letters were
found on his person. In tho first,
which was written before tho shoot
ing, ho snid ho was compelled to
commit a crime against tho "bloated
aristocracy," because of insufficiency
of relief offered him. In the second,
written after his arrest, ho said his
only object was to oauso public
alarm, and get his pecuniary griev
ances redressed.
Congratulations upon the escape
of Her Majesty liavo been forwarded
from the Unitod States and other
nations.
This is the seventh time the life
of tho Queen has been attempted by
