Tho Japanese Prince who arrived
by the mail steamer on Monday, is
the bearer of Decorations from the
Emperor of Japan, for the Princess
Liliuokalani, for Gov. Dominis, for
Hon. C. R. Bishop and for Hon. A.
S. Cleghorn. He will have an audi
ence with His Majesty to-day. The
Prince is domiciled at the Palama
residence of H. H. Keclikolani.
An immense mass meeting was
bold at Piatt's Hall, San Francisco,
on the 4th of March, at which
speeches were mado by prominent
citizens nnd resolutions passed,
urging upon Congress tho absoluto
necessity for speedy and effective
legislation for restricting and con
trolling Chinese immigration. Simi
lar meetings were held throughout
the State, and also in Nevada.
H. B. M.'s Commissioner and
Consul-General, Major J. H. Wodc
house, sailed for Kauai last evening
on the steamer C. It. Bishop, to ex
amine into the labor contract system
us carried on at that Island. Ho
has letters from the Board of Im
migration to the different planters,
requesting them to afford him overy
needed facility for obtaining inform
ation. We understand that Major
Wodehouso will visit in turn each
of the Islands of tho group, in order
that the labor system shall bo
thoroughly looked into.
