A Largo Station,
One of Uic la'nrest ami most valuable.
stations in New South Wales is owned
ly Messrs. T. Euolsnml Uo., and few
iMKmlc have nnv idea of the mnanit mlu
of the work done there, RurnuMiiur
is situated on the i ivcr Lachlan, about
forty miles from Forbes. Shearing
there has recently been concluded,
after extending er n period .of
oight weeks. The number of sheep
shorn was 251,01)0, and ncnornllvtho
yield was wonderfully good, averag
ing ciosc-upon o ID. wctgiu of wool
to each Bhccp, lambs included. The
total amount of wool was 2,811
bales, nnu estimating tuo avcrago
weight of each bale at ono hundred
and three-quarters, this will give the
total quantity of wool from this ono
station to bo about 1,180,804 lb.
Taking tlio lowest estimate, us the
wool is of first-class quality, this
would mako tho gross value- of tho
Burrawang yield amount to 60,
000. During tho shearing there are
employed 101 shearers, about 50
rousoabouts, and 20 mustcrcrs.
Shearers wero paid 20s. per hundred
sheep. An average man got rid of a
hundred a day. Rousoabouts got
from 12s. to 25s. per week, and tho
mustcrcrs woro paid 35s. -per week.
Thus, at a rough computation, tho
total expense of the shearing, as far
as hands are concerned, was about
2,000, irrespective of all -other
items. To get rid of tho 2,811 bales
150 wagons and drays were employed
