jRoforms in Conveyancing.
In moving to bting about a radic
al reform Jn our system of convoying
property the Unr Association of this
city has unilci taken n woik whose
achievement will bo a boon to the
public ns well iv-rtho legal piofcssion.
The present methods of passing titles
and recording deeds, mortgage, &c,
are not only cumbious and inconve
nient to lawyers, but expensive nnd
often miKiifo in hovers of nronoitv.
At a meeting of tho association held
last night favonblc action was taken
on tho report of a committee which
leconuncnds various changes intend
ed to simplify and improve tho law
and practice relating to forms of
conveyancing, recording deeds of
transfer, giving notice of liens, mak
ing searches, &c. Tho recommend
ation that short and simplo forms of
deeds nnd mortgages to bo prepared
mulct die direction of tho Chief
Judge of tho Court of Appeals bo
adopted in tho place of the ancient
and absurdly verbose documents
now in use will stiiko the commu
nity with special favor, as will also
tho suggestion that tho Surrogate
before admitting to probato a will of
real estato be directed to require tes
timony fallowing who the heirs are.
England has just reformed its sys
tem of conveyancing and thero can
be no question as to tho advantages
that will bo gained by taking the
same step hero. N. Y. Herald.
Giving tho East what it Wants.
Chicago, April 13 Tho Chicago
Tribune has a long editorial serious
ly proposing tho transfer of tho
Chinese from California to tho East
ern States, whoro, according to their
representatives in Congicss, they arc
huugciing for a Mongolian invasion.
Tho editorial continues : There cuu,
however, bo no question that tho
voluntary migration of tho Chinese
from tho Paciiic to the Atlantic
Coast, encouraged by bounties or
otherwise, would be legal. The State
of California would be justified, un
der the circumstances, in offering
fieo transportation to any Chinamnn
who should desire to seek his for
tunes in any of 'the Atlantic States.
The experiment ought to have a fair
and honest trial. Tho State would
be glad to put in its next appropria
tion bill 8500,000 for thu transport
ation of Chinese, labotcrs, skilled and
unskilled, to New York and Boston.
