THURSDAY, MAY 11, 1882.
Happiness of tho Nowly Married.
It is tho happiest nnd most virtu
ous stato of society in -which tho
husband and wife set out,togethor,
nnd with perfect sympathy of soul
graduate nil their expense's, plans,
calculations, nnd desires, with refer
ence to their present means nnd
their future and 0011110911 interest.
Nothing delights mo mora than to
enter the neat little tenement of the
young people, who, within perhaps.
two or three years, without auy
resources, but their own knowledge
or industry, have joined heart and
hand, and engage to share together
responsibilities, duties, interests,
trials, nnd pleasures of life. The
industrious wife is cheerfully' em
ploying her own hands in domestic
duties, putting her house in order,
or mending her husband's clothes,
or preparing tho dinner ; whilst per
haps the little darling sits prattling
on tho floor, or lies sleeping in the
cradle, and everything seems prepar
ing to welcome tho happiest of hus
bands and -the best of fathers, when'
uc suaii come iionie irom nis urns to
enjoy tho sweets of bis, little par
adise. This is tho truo domestic
pleasure. Health, contentment,
love, abundanco, nnd bright pros
pects are here. But it has become
a prevalent sentiment that a man
must acquire, his fortuuc before ho
marries that a wife must have no
sympathy nor share with him in the
pursuit of it in which most of the
pleasure truly consists and tho
young married people must'set out
witli as largo and expensive an es
tablishment as is becoming those
who have been wedded for twenty
years. This is very unhappy ; it Alls
tho community with bachelors, who
arc waiting to make their fortunes,
endangering virtue and promoting
vico ; it destroys the truo economy
and design of the domestic institu
tion, and it promotes idleness and
inelliciency amongs females, who
arc expecting to be taken up by for
tune, ana passively sustained with
out any care or concern on their
part ; and thus many a wife becomes,
as a gentleman once remarked, not
a "help-mate," but a "help-eat."
