A Colored Solomon.
There is a negro boy employed at
Ruhr's hotel, Frankfort, Ky., to make
fires, black boots and render himself
generally useful. His peculiarity is
to exploit his personal acquaintances
" What is your name, boy?"
" Julius." he replied.
" Any kin to Julius Cajsar?" (wish
ing to be facetious at' his expense,
and there being a listener or two
u Oh, no; Julius Cajsar was my
mamma's old mastor." Julius is 'as
black as midnight in the gasless
valley of Frankfort.
" Was, he?"
" Yes; liyed on Elkhorn, six miles
from here. 1 remember him well.
He only deid a few years."
" Ho died in the capitol I believe."
"No; he died hecr. It was 'fore
de capitol was hilt" (Julius was
evidently thinking of the Capitol
"Did you ever see Brutui?" I

"What of Bassius? Did you
ever see him?"
(Hesitatingly)" You mean de

him. Went to the pen'tcntiary for
Btcfilin' a coat. Ho died dar, I
"You seem to have a large ac
quaintance, Julius, and must know
" Guess I does " (not looking up,
but giving extra crncrgy to the
brush). "Givhira an extra shine
yesterday momiu'. Paid me a
nickel with a hole in it. Meanest
man in Frankfort."
' Did you ace Cleopatra when
" You mean de woman dat played
in the theater? Yes, indeed, boss;
she stopped here in dis house.
Miehtv nice woman."
A ccntlcman to whom I related
this confabulation with Julius, told
me vliat tne boy was Dragging 10
him one morning about his know
ledge of horses. Ho asked him if
ho ever saw Alexander's Bucepha
lus. "Over in Woodford?" he
answered; "yes, indeed. I broke
