Among the many curious sects
in the world is one in England known
as the Peouliar People, who hold, with
other singular doctrines, that it is not
right to call in medical assistance- in
cases of sickness, but that relief
should bo obtained through tho effi
cacy of prayer. Recently ono of theso
people allowed his child to dio of
small-pox, and was convicted of crimi
nal negligonco for not procuring
assistance. The case was carried to a
higher court on reserved questions,
which were, first, as to whothor tho
child's death was accelerated by tho
father's broaoh of duty ; and second,
as to whether tho prisonor was guilty
manslaulrter, assuming that death wub
thus caused.- The Court quashed the
conviction. This caso involves much
matter for consideration and for lo
go! study.
