A Woman's Grit and Grip".
Liibt niplit it lady who resides on
Ivy street was " at homo " to quite
a number of her iriends, and a
plenf-nnt evening was the result.
Before the hour for reparation had
arrived, however, one of tho guests
of the lady was taken quite ill and
was escorted to a bed-room, wheie
she was disrobed and made to feel
as easy as every possible kindness
could offer. About 12 o'clock she
fell into a quiet ibleep, and the
young lady who was watching by
hor bide, thinking that her guest had
forgotten her ills in sweet slumber,
lay down upon a sofa, beside a win
dow in the loom, and was soon lost
to the caics of this world. How
long she slept she does not know,
but while in the midst of a pleasant
dream sho felt bomething brush
across her face and with a start
awoke. Her awakening saved the
life of her friend, but came near
being her own death. The some
thing which brushed across her face
and aw oke her was the nightdress
of that friend, wiio had, in a som
nambulistic fit, arisen from her bed
and walked across the room to the
window, beside which the lady was
sleeping. To get to the window
she eiawlcd over tho sleeping form
of the host and then began an exit,
which must have resulted in death
but for the work of her gown.
Hardly realizing what blic was doing,
the lady grabbed tl-o white fabric
which had aroused her, with both
hands, and as bho did so her ears
wcic greeted with .screams just out
side the window. In an instant she
realized that sho w,as holding her
friend in mid-air and that to loosen
her grasp on the cloth was to insure
her death. She was not physically
stiong, but with a nervo tarely
equaled she tightened her hold and
then joined in with her friend's call
for aid Soon their combined screams
awoke the inmates of the house, who
hastened to the room and rescued
the young lady from her forial posi
tion. As soon as tho sonnambulist.
for such sho acknowledged herself
to be, was diawn into the room, tho
young ladv who sated hoi life fain
ted, and this morning her norvouj
prostration is so great that her
friends are in great anxiety. .for her.
