The very latest teetotal drink up
Quccuslnml way is called "snnkc
juice." It knocks Eli Johnson and
his drugs stiff in one net, and it is
prepared as follows: Take seven
snakes of the deadliest sort, four
death-adders, and the inside parts of
G tarantulas, cover the lot with sul
phuric aeid, coal-tai, and pain-killer,
and boil over a slow fire for half-an-liour.
Then add one pint of nitro
glycerine, two quarts of Kerosene
oil, three gallons of the oil of vitro,
and n little turpentine to flavor.
Have ready in another boiler a few
boa constrictors, the essence of three
rattle-snakes, half a pint of prussic
acid, and it gallon of Fanner's
Friend, or Pottio's Highland Oil.
Mix all together, stirring briskly,
and then strain through a three-rail
fence, and bottle off when cooling.
If required for immediate use,
sprinkle 10 ozs. of dynamite over
the top, and sweeten with a little
nsafectida. This makes a most
pleading effervescent drink, .it
"bite" all tho way dowu, and one
trial will bo more than quite sulli
cicnt. A citizen of Detroit entered a
Michigan avenue grocery the other
day and said he wanted a private
word with tho proprietor. When
they retired to the desk, he began,
"I want to make a confession and a
reparation. Do you remember of
my buying sugar here two or three
days ago?" "I do." "Well, in
paying for it I worked off a counter
feit quarter on the clerk. It was a
mean trick, and I came to tender
you good money." "Oh, don't
mention it," replied the grocer.
"Hut I want to make it right." "It's
all right all right. We knew who
passed the quarter on us, and that
afternoon whrn your wife sent down
a dollar bill and wanted a can of
sardines, I gave her that bad quarter
with her change. Don't let your
conscience trouble you at all it's
An irreverent fellow asked a
clergyman, " Can you tell me how
old tiic devil is?" " My friend, you
must keep your own family record,"
was the reply.
Girls, like opportunities, arc all
the more to you after being cm
