Tho physicians nt Hotel Dicu,
Paris, aio puzzled over a rcmark
nhlo case. A youth named Jean
Coudouist is under treatment for
overgrowth. Ho is 20 years of ago,
npd up to last year presented
nothing extraordinary in his
up-
pcaruncc. Ho was tall, and
was nil. but had for some
that
time
ceased to grow, after attaining a
height of d feet 0 inches. Sud
denly in May, last year, he began
to add to his height, and up to
September 14th he lind stretched to
5 feet "10 inches. This growth lias
continued until lie now measures G
feet 10 inches. IIo appears to have
elongated principally in tho legs,
and the phenomena is accompanied
by racking pains in the bones.
Ilis health in other respects is very
unsatisfactory, consumption having
shown itself in a very dangerous
form.
A lofty mass of roclc which throw
its shadow over Las Vegas, New
Mexico, half a mile away, lately
tumbled into tho vallc'. Five to fif
teen thousand tons of rock 'were
loosened form its foundation. Tho
mountain taweiod 5000 feet above
tho GaltiiuiB river. Tho most remark
able result of this violent chango is
found to bo tho disclosing at the
point of ruturo,- high on tho moun
tain sido, of an eight-foot vein of
coppor carbonates and sulphides,
located, llalf way down tho sido
of tho mountain a coal bed was laid
pare, which was prcamtcd as soon as
discovered.
North Carolina boasts of a somi
nquatio town, of whioliyi correspon
dent of the Atlanta" Constitution
writes: "I suppose Morohead City
is tho only city in tho world with
out a wheel in it. I do not think
there is a wagon or a buggy horse
in town, and very few in tho coun
try. Everything is dono in boats.
Thcro is not a houso in tho country
that a boat cannot got within a
mile of. Not a doctor or a lawyer
in tho country owns a horso they
practice in boats. The people go to
funerals in boats, and when they
nrrest a inanUhcy carry him to jail
in a boat."
Tho Japan correspondent of a
London paper quotes Joseph Cook
us bavin" been informed by the
missionaries in Japanese students
sent to America had returned Chris
tians, whilo not scch case had oc
citrcd among those sent to Germany,
France or England. The reason, the
correspondent thinks, is that " in
the Ueited States religion is more
easily felt by an outsider than in
Scotland, or England, or Germany
or Franco."
