llcntywns a good boy, lint, un
fortunately, was not possessed of
tact. I do not know that you nudor
Htniid precisely what tact means,
there-fine I will illustrate. One day
it gentleman was walking along the
utiect, when nil of a Midden mi
avalanche of dust descended upon
him fiom a second-story window.
Henry, who was standing near, saw
the nccideiit. but he did not have
tact. It seemed so funny to see u
Htiauge gentleman .suddenly subject
ed to a j dust shower that he laughed
uloud. But John was enthely unlike
Henry. Notwithstanding that it was
lie who had piecjpitaled the dust
upon the strange gentlenian, he was
in the, street and addiessing the
stiaiige gentleman in a moment. He
said ho was exceedingly soi ry that
such an iinfoitunatc accident had
befallen the gentleman, and voltin
teeied to biush the dustfiom the
hitter's clothing; but while pel tend
ing to do this ho nibbed chalk all
over the gentleman's back. The
gentleman thanked John for his kind
ness, and said that he should be only
too glad to do him a favor. John,
you see, had tact; but Henry, who
saw the whole transaction, did not
offer to assist tho gentleman. Ho
simply laughed. This angeicd the
gentleman, and by his effoits Henry
was discharge from employment,
while John seemed a leniunerative
situation. Thoio is nothing like
tact. Jfoxton Transitipt.
