NECESSITIES FOR US.
The, Baldwin manufacturing com
pany, of SUclbiun, Vermont, have
on exhibition nt the fair three of
their dry nir icfiigcrntors. This is
undoubtedly the best refrigerator in
thc.nmket. ,Thc. internal construc
tion is such as to tsccurc a peifoct
circulation. vThe air conflnedin the
refrigerator comes successively in
contact 'with the ice-; all moistuic
aiid impurities aic dcposilcdithereon,
passing off with the drip water, and
the air descends lo the provision

the three conditions 'necessary for
the picscrvation of any perishable
article. For picoervinj qualities,
convenience nnd economy of ice, it
has no equal. It took the medal
and diploma at last year's exhibition
of the Massachusetts charitable
mechanics' association, aud has taken
this year a silver medal of the Mis;
souri state fair at St. Louis, picni
ium at the Vcimont stale fair, diplo
mas at the Indiana state fair at In
dianapolis, Michigan state fair at
Jackson, tri-state fan' (Ohio, Indiana
and Illinois) at Toledo, Ohio. The
three on exhibition heic aic the
styles designed for retail g.ocers,
restaurants and hotels and families.
The PorCer manufacturing com-'
pany, of Burlington, Vermont,
exhibit 'at the fair door and window
screens, made with their patent
metallic corners, and door and
window screen sticks -which require
no mortising or tenoning and cannot
sag or warp. Five' sticks, six corn
ers and twenty-eight screws, com
plete a perfect door sciccn frame.
(Six sticks, four corners and sixteen
sciews make a perfect window scicen
frame. Each side of the fiamc is
gioovcd, which runs upon two slides
or sticks, that ate screwed to inside
casings that' the screen frame slides
on from top to bottom of w indow,
thus affording a fly-tight scicen for
cither upper or loweisash, and not
in the way of shutting or, opening
j'our blinds insidc'or outside. Any
one can make them,' they arc always
ready for use, aud will last a life

' A MUCH TRIED WIFE.
A melancholy looking woman, wilh
a painful' expression 'about the cor

a divot ce. . " What are you grounds
for a divbiee?"

It's dteadful for
a sober, 'hard-woi king woman like
myself to have a drunken husband."
" I suppose you have witnesses who
know how he d.'jnks to excess."
"Witnesses! well, I should say so.
I can piovc his diitnkenncss by my-self.''-
' Of course you have fre

woman, 'looking, around'to see that
nobody was looking, thcu'sald in n

all of it. You sec I diink about
two-thirds of the bottle before I give
it to him,' nnd 'thcn'I fllljt up' with
water. If It' wasn't for that I
counldu't live with him another day.
I just couldp't stand it."
A good joke is told of a ceitaiu
Dublin professor a stickler for ven
tilation. Being put in a room at an
hotel with another guest, lie asked
the latter taiaiso'thc window at
night, as the" air was so close. "I
can't laiso it,'? said guest, after
working at the window for a while,
"Then knock opane of glass out,"
said the professor, which was done.
After a while the professor, got up
and broke another, then ho was able
