Hb Married for love.
A mini who lias married for love is
(i happy fellow. lie is generally
cheerful, and always thinking of the
dear ones at home. Ho prefers to
livu out of town for the sake of his
children. He is rarely late at busi
ness, rises early, gardens a little,
cuts a hearty breakfast, and goes to
the necessary labour with a light
heart and a clean conscience. Ho
often brings home pleasant surprises
for his wife and children. You may
recognise him in trains loaded with
parcels, which he good-naturedly
carries with perfect unconcern of
what others think a new bonnet,
music, books, a cloak for his wife;
while in another parcel the wheels of
a cart, a jack-in-the-box, a doll, or a
skipping-rope protrude through the
paper, and suggest the nursery. He
is bravo and kind, though he makes
no noise in the world. The human
ising inllucncc of that darling red
cheeked little fellow who calls him
father brings a glow of rapture of
the purest pleasure earth holds ; for
the man who has never felt a tiny
hand clasp his will always lack some
thing he will be less human, less
blessed than others. This is the
noble, the honest, the only form of
life that imparts real contentment
and ioy, that will make, a death-bed
glorious, and love sec peace through
its tears. It is so purely unselfish,
so tenderly true ; it satisfies the high
est instincts. It stimulates men to
the best deeds they arc capable of.
"There is a very old time piece
now to be seen at the Sydney
Observatory" (says the Herald),
"and in consequence of the long
period of its existence something of
an interesting nature is attached to
its history. It is a mean time,
astronomical clock, and was manu
factured in the year 1760, in
Loudon, for the purpose of being
ined by an expedition party who
lift England at that time to observe
the transit of Venus from some
p eminent spot. It was subsequent
ly taken back to Loudon, and placed
in the Royal Society's Institution
!No. 1 , whose property it now is.
The American transit of Venus
party, now on a visit to these
colonies, obtained the use of it for
the purpose of aiding them in certain
researches which they are making,
and they used it at Auckland the
other day when taking observations
of the planet. The presence of the
clock at the Syduey Observatory is
accounted for by tlie fact of the
American astronomers being in
Sydney. It stands above five feet
high, and is in construction some
what similar to the modern style of
large clocks. According to accounts
it still records the time of day with
the most perfect accuracy."
