novel dicss intended for tlic protect
ion of Himltnty i-dtois, muses, mid
otliers, who have to outer the looms
of persons suffeiing fiom infections
diseases. The gtuincnt Is of mack
intosh, glazed inside and out, and
made completely to envelop the
wearer, and with a hood to cover the
head. Thus only the hands nnd
face remain exposed a matter con
sideiedof coinpaiativcly little im
portance, ns these can bo easily
wished with disinfectants. A not
less iinpmt.uit object proposed to be
uffeotcd by the use of this dicss is
that by its icmoval when the weaicr
leaves the sick loom the clothes
which have been protected need not
be changed, and the danger of the
disease being c.micd from house to
house, or communicated to suscepti
ble persons in public vehicles, is
obviated. A tight case for the fever
dicss to be inclosed in is pmt of the
invention. At the end of the day,
or as often as may be convenient,
the dicss can be cleansed with disin
fectants. Fuitherpioteclion is given
by a simple foim of lesph.itor. This
is made ot two folds of thin washing
net, between which is placed a layer
of medicated cotton-wool, through
which the wearer can bie.ithe, though
no germs can pass. The tcspirator
has tape stiings which tie lound the
ears. After use tho wool is burnt
and the net washed. Queen.
Al'arisfhm has patented an in
vention for the instantaneous foima
tion of steam. Water is pumped
between two heated plates, which
have only a capillaiy space between
them. As the liquid spreads in a
veiy thin layer it evaporates at
once, without assuming the so-called
bpheroidal state, and is immediately
used in the cylinder of the engine.
The quantity of water f 01 cud between
the plates is regulated by the engine,
the pump being woiked horn the
ciunk shaft. JLime JSrews.
