MR. DAVID CRAHAM ADEE,
Who arrived in Honolulu on Mon
day night by the City of Sydney, is
commissioned by the State Depart
ment at Washington, to enquire
into certain recent business matters
between tho Hawaiian Government,
and the Pacific Mail S. S. Co. Mr.
Adce will transact his business
through His Excellency Rollin M.
Daeeett, U. S. Minister Resident.
Mr. Adee is a lawyer of considerable
repute in New York and Washing
ton ; he has been practising his pro
fession for the lost six years in the
latter city. His brother is third
Assistant-Secretary of State at
Washington, and his father Dr. A.
Adeo was in Honolulu in 1884 or
1835 as fleet surgeon on board the
U. S. S. Vincennes, Dr. Adee was
so pleased with his visit to this
Kingdom that he wrote a long
account of the islands in his journal.
Mr. Adee was formerly a journalist,
and connected with the Washington
Weekly Jiepublic. He is accom
pained 'by Mrs. Adee and proposes
to remain in Honolulu for a month,
'"' staying at the Hawaiian Hotel. From
a cursory glance at Honolulu, yes
!terday, Mr. Adee pronounced the
